Good morning everybody, we’re kicking the day off with temps in the 60s, and dewpoints in the 60s too with some low clouds. Fog is not being reported at the moment across the region, so let me know if you’re seeing any isolated patches in your neckiddawoods. Any low clouds or fog will burn off quickly as the sunrise gets underway with vigorous vim.
SUMMER SOLSTICE 2020
Our star is as high overhead as it will be in the northern hemisphere this year, so send some praise skyward for its brilliant light as it blasts a shiny sheen down on all of our crania today.
We’re enjoying 15 hours and 15 minutes of light daily with sunrises around 5:15am and sunsets around 8:30pm, with dawn’s first bird chirpings around 4:30am, and evening’s last light in the sky between 9:30pm-10:00pm.
Earth’s giant cosmic nod to The One that keeps it alive is about complete for this year, as the Solstice passes tomorrow evening at 5:43pm.
NOW HERE’S DAVE WITH THE WEATHER
With broad high pressure to our southeast, a light southwest flow has developed, and as such, will keep our increased humidity levels fairly high through the weekend, before it really ramps up Tuesday through Thursday of next week.
A chance exists each afternoon/evening for isolated showers, downpours, and/or thunderstorms, none of which will reach severe levels. Just run of the mill boomers that drop heavy rain and some lightning, if you get one.
OUR SUMMERY SUMMAH-RY
–For our Friday, expect partly sunny skies in the high terrain west of the CT River with highs in the low to mid 80s there with a possible isolated shower or storm today, though we should remain dry
–Elsewhere in the valley and lower elevations, highs reach the upper 80s to low 90s under mostly sunny skies.
–Dewpoints are in the 60s everywhere, so humidity will be up
–Tonight lows will be in the low to mid 60s under partly cloudy skies
–For Saturday, expect a mix of sun and clouds, with isolated to scattered showers and storms in the afternoon with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s, and muggy
–Lows will dip into the low to mid 60s
–Sunday is tricky
–There’s a chance that our upper low meanders more to our south and leaves us with yet another very warm to hot and humid day with a few pop-up showers and storms, vs. a cloudier more showery, slightly less hot day. Either way it doesn’t look like a washout, but I will update this tomorrow.
–For now, expect highs in the 80s, lows in the 60s, muggy, and potential for a few showers, with some sunny periods, too
–For Monday? You guessed it, 85-90 once again, humid, scattered afternoon showers possible
–The Tuesday through Thursday period looks like the hottest and most humid of the bunch
–In fact, we could see highs in the mid 90s in the valley, and upper 80s in the high terrain, with dew points over 70 degrees, with a chance for scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms each day, and lows in the 60s
–By Thursday, a cold front FINALLY looks to approach the region, and if we’re lucky, we’ll get a period of steadier rain out of the deal, but it’s no guarantee
–Drier and seasonably warm early summer temps arrive by Friday into next weekend, with (hopefully) lowered humidity
Stay healthy, folks…
