Western Mass Weather for June 20, 2020

[LAZY, HOT, HUMID, ISOLATED SHOWER/NON-SEVERE STORM IN THE AFTERNOON/EVENING POSSIBLE, REPEAT THROUGH WEDNESDAY… HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE TO ALL TODAY… 5:30am Sat]

Good morning everybody, we’re stuck in the meteorological doldrums for the time being, and I sure hope you like summer weather, because I’ve got extra helpings to shovel into your neighborhood over the next 5 days or so at least.

Enjoy the peak light of the year today, as the Summer Solstice for 2020 passes at 5:43pm this afternoon. Hard to believe the light starts to slowly slip away already this year, but as George Harrison once sang, All Things Must Pass.

Life is fast and fleeting, itself being like a single long day when you look back on it. It’s messy and horrible, beautiful and amazing, all at the same time. Try to appreciate the moments when they’re good, learn the lessons when they’re presented, and bear the horridness when it’s terrible as best you can, is the simple advice I can take from my own life and share it with anyone else who finds it useful.

AND NOW HERE’S DAVE WITH THE WEATHER…
Weather’s gonna weather us. The end.

More specifically, we start off with a few clouds around as our old, decaying upper level storm eventually slides out of PA, passing south of New England over the next couple of days.

For this weekend, we’ll see mostly sunny skies (though tomorrow could see a few more clouds than today, especially south of the MA Pike).

Highs will reach the mid 80s to low 90s, and be a bit hotter today than tomorrow.

It will be humid, with dewpoints in the mid 60s, muggy but not nuts.

Each afternoon/evening will feature the fairly low chance for an isolated shower, downpour, or thunderstorm. None of these, if they form, should last very long, and no gusty winds, hail, or frequent lightning are expected. I’d say if they do form they’re more likely to form over high terrain areas than the valleys.

Lows tonight and tomorrow night will be in the 60s, with continued humidity, and we can’t rule out isolated fog patches in spots each early morning.

Monday is the one day of the next stretch through Wednesday that MAY feature a bit more in the way of showers, especially for northern CT as the old storm slips south of the region. Areas closer to it could see more in the way of a partly sunny day with cloudy periods and scattered showers. But, north of the Pike Monday, it’s same as it ever was with mid to upper 80s, mostly sunny, humid, chance of an isolated shower.

Lows Monday night will be in the mid 60s with isolated fog patches late.

Tuesday looks to be the hottest of the next stretch, with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s, with Heat Indices possibly being hoisted by the NWS.

And you guessed it! A chance for afternoon/evening isolated showers and thunderstorms exists. Who’d a thunk it? Lows will again be in the 60s, humid conditions continue.

By Wednesday into Thursday, we watch for the timing of a cold frontal passage that could focus some more showers over the region, along with a chance for thunderstorms. Highs will be in the 80s, lows in the 60s, and we may get a break in the humidity by Thursday into Friday.

We shall see.

Peace, Dave
