Western Mass Weather for June 17, 2021

VERY CHILLY START! FAIR WEATHER THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING THEN OUR HUMIDITY INCREASES WITH SOME SATURDAY MORNING SHOWERS, AND SOME SATURDAY AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER… SUNDAY AND MONDAY REMAIN VERY WARM WITH INCREASING HUMIDITY ON MONDAY… MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY FEATURES HEAVY RAIN POTENTIAL WITH A TROPICAL SYSTEM GETTING DRAWN NORTHEAST ALONG A STRONG COLD FRONT, SO HAVE THE GALOSHES HANDY FOR TUESDAY… COOLER, FAIR WEATHER BY MID NEXT WEEK… 10:00AM THURS…

Good morning everybody, if you’re at all groggy this morning, trust me when I say that a little cold therapy by plunging yourself out and into the morning air will snap you attention faster than any cup of strong coffee ever could!

I’m going to dispense double–dashes below like they’re going out of style. But were they ever in style? I think they’ll always be pretty unstylish, but I’m going to ignore that likely reality, and produce a vigorous flurry of them below.

Who knows what heights we’ll hit?

On with the show, this is it!

SUMMARY
–Very chilly this morning!
–Temps are down in the low 40s, and I even saw a few upper 30s in high terrain areas!
–This is thanks to an upper trough that is sticking its axis south right through New England this morning
–Temps will rebound today with high pressure building into the region, and should rise into the low to upper 70s under mostly sunny skies with westerly breezes gusting to 15mph at times
–For tonight, one more strong radiational cooling night with lows in the mid to upper 40s which is impressively low for the incoming Solstice period
–On Friday, temps come up as high pressure starts to move south of us and induce southwesterly flow
–Highs should reach the upper 70s to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies, with some increasing clouds by afternoon
–At night, clouds will further increase, as will humidity with lows near 60º, with a few showers possible after midnight into the early morning hours on Saturday
–A warm front passes through Saturday morning, ushering in more humid and warmer air, with high expected to get well into the 80s by afternoon, with some upper 80s possible
–The warm front brings scattered morning showers, then we should see a lull with some partly sunny skies possible
–This will set the stage for a “cold” front to sweep the region by evening, and the front will be attached to what looks like an energetic mid-level system sweeping southeast and passing to our north
–This could set the stage for severe thunderstorms, so stay tuned for future updates on Saturday afternoon’s weather
–After any showers and thunderstorms pass through, lows will drop into the upper 50s to near 60º with patchy fog possible
–Sunday looks like the pick of the weekend, with mostly sunny skies and briefly less humid conditions, and highs 80-85º, with lows in the low 60s
–By Monday, we’re warming right back up ahead of another strong cold front, and humidity will be pooling in the region as well
–Highs will reach the 85-90º range with mostly sunny skies early, but with clouds increasing later in the day. It will be humid.
–Meanwhile, a strong cold front will be pressing east, and the remnants of out western Gulf of Mexico tropical system will be tracking east and along this front, and could be directed into New England
–This would bring copious rainfall Monday night into Tuesday, so I will keep you updated on that development
–Fairer, cooler, and drier weather arrives by mid week behind that system

Have a great day!
