Western Mass Weather for August 5, 2021

RAIN DID NOT MATERIALIZE… A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE LATER THIS MORNING, BUT WE WILL BE DRYING IN THE AFTERNOON… LAST ANOMALOUSLY COOL DAY FOR A WHILE… HEAT AND HUMIDITY RETURN TOMORROW INTO THE 80s FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY, THEN LOW 90s TUESDAY INTO ABOUT THURSDAY WHEN SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE… SUMMAH’S BACK! 7:00am THURS…

Good morning everybody, well the dry air banked in from the west and won out overnight. We’ve had a few showers in eastern Hampden County, and anywhere form a tenth to three-tenths of an inch in northeast CT and portions of CMass, but by and large, this one is a dud, and I’m thankful this wasn’t Winter time, or I’d be pulling my hair out! These sharp western cutoffs in the precip shield are never not a bear to determine.

Anyway, moving along, we should have a few showers scattered about through the morning into perhaps early afternoon, but largely we will be dry and mostly cloudy with highs in the low 70s.

This will be the last anomalously cool day we’ll see for a while, as the upper level trough over eastern North America FINALLY lifts away, pushed aside by an understandably neglected and rather rambunctious Bermuda High in the western Atlantic who wants to have some summer fun, for cripes sake!

Lows tonight will dip into the upper 50s to low 60s with some patchy fog by morning, and then we flip the switch back to summer for Friday!

On Friday, a gorgeous, true summer day is on tap with increased humidity and highs soaring well into the 80s, perhaps some upper 80s down near Springfield/Hartford under sunny skies. Over the coming week we may see some skies hazed up by western wildfire smoke but as of now, nothing like we experienced recently is expected, but I’ll keep an eye on it.

Lows Friday night will dip into the low 60s, and then we’ll rise into the low to upper 80s on Saturday with “another bright day” as Ringo Starr said in the upcoming Beatles movie, which I cannot WAIT to see!

We’ll have more of a partly sunny day Saturday, and some isolated showers or a thunderstorm is possible in the later afternoon and evening, especially in the high terrain west of the I-91 corridor. Lows will be in the low to mid 60s, and it will continue to be humid.

For Sunday, we’ll see some moisture converge in the region, and with muggy conditions, partly sunny skies, and highs in the 80s, we’ll have enough moisture and instability present to produce some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Lows will dip into the low to mid 60s.

Monday looks brighter, with highs in the low to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies with a spot shower by afternoon, but it is the Tuesday to Thursday timeframe when the Bermuda high really sets up shop and brings a summer taste to our region.

Highs during this period look to rise into the mid 80s to low 90s with a chance of afternoon scattered showers and summer storms each day, but Thursday is the day when a cold front may be slicing into the region.

This would be the day to watch for the strongest to possibly severe thunderstorms to bring a chance of hail, wind, and heavy rain, so I will keep you updated on that potential as those days draw nearer.

Have a great day!
