Good evening everybody, we’ve got some rain showers tracking into northern CT at 6pm. We even have some overhead in WMass, but it’s drier up here, so many aren’t reaching the ground yet, but that should change overnight.

Expect some scattered light showers at times with lows in the mid to upper 30s overnight.

However, a few places in the northern Berkshires/Taconics, northwest hilltowns and SVT could see some light freezing rain or drizzle overnight if we can drain enough cool air south into that part of my coverage area.

We also can’t rule out some light mixed showers of snow or ice, but much of this light activity should amount to little impact, if any, but something to keep in the back of your mind if you’re heading out early tomorrow morning.

Wednesday looks rather inconsequential as well, with some scattered light activity, mainly light rain showers, with dry periods as well. Highs will crest into the low to mid 40s, and some patchy fog can’t be ruled out.

The most substantial impact this week will be late Wednesday night into Thursday evening.

Our system has the potential to pull back its track more to the west. This could cut down on snow potential even in SVT and allow warmer air into the region.

With southeasterly flow increasing just north of the incoming occluded frontal boundary, southeast winds could rip in the high terrain in the western hilltowns (especially east-facing slopes), and the Berkshires, Taconics, Litchfields and southern Greens. Wind gusts could blow 40-50mph, and in some cases touch 60mph in the highest mountain passes.

This would occur during the pre-dawn hours into Thursday morning after sunrise.

Rain will fall, moderate to heavy at times Thursday morning, beginning before sunrise. This may fall as a wet snow in elevations above 2000 feet in northwest MA, eastern NY, and southern VT where several inches of wet snow could fall. If the wind combines with such a setup, some isolated outages are possible in these areas, but right now it looks a bit of a warmer solution. We shall see.

Everything quits and pulls out by early Thursday afternoon, by which time the front will be northeast of us and westerly winds will be wrapping in to the south of the low center pulling northeast into southeastern Canada.

Westerlies could gust 25-35mph at times, and will help contribute to lake effect snow bands and upslope snow fall over the Taconics, Berkshires, and southern Greens Thursday evening into part of Friday, with additional light accumulations possible.

Friday through Monday are cold and fair, with partly to mostly cloud skies Friday and Saturday, and more sunshine by Sunday and Monday before more rain moves in next Tuesday or so.

Good morning everybody, we’ve got a couple of meh days coming up in the weather department through Wednesday evening with some isolated to scattered lighter rain (or if you’re in NW MA or SVT, mixed) showers at times, with dry periods interspersed. Thereafter, late Wednesday night into Thursday morning is when we see a good soaking of rain, and some accumulating wet snow in the high passes of southwestern New England, with a few locales possibly getting pasted with a half foot, which could cause some outages).

SUMMARY
–For today, a few scattered light showers are possible later, with mostly cloudy skies dominating the day
–We will be mild as southwest flow continues with highs in the mid 40s to low 50s
–By tonight, another wave of lighter precip will be lifting into the region, likely after midnight with more scattered rain showers and some light mixed precip possible in southern VT, northwest MA and the western hilltowns
–Little to no accumulation is expected
–Lows will dip into the low to mid 30s overnight, and patchy fog will be possible
–For Wednesday, some scattered showers in the morning will give way to another lull period under mostly cloudy skies with highs in the low 40s
–Wednesday night is when an upper low pressure system will track northwest of us, with a secondary low developing over NJ and tracking northeast right through southern New England
–This will develop southeasterly flow and slam moisture up and into the east-facing slopes of the Berkshires and southern Green Mountains of SVT
–Colder air will be working in on stronger winds from the west as we pass into early Thursday morning before sunrise
–Moderate to heavy rain will work into the region and about half an inch to an inch of rain is possible in the WMass region through Thursday noon
–However, with colder air working aloft, an elevation-dependent snowfall is expected Thursday morning
–Generally, a coating to 3″ is a good bet in the central/northern Berkshires and Taconics, northwestern hilltowns, and up into SVT
–Some of the highest passes in eastern Bennington County and western Windham County could see more like 3-6″ or so
–If elements align, this could be a pasting for some in the mountains of SVT
–Lows will be in the low to mid 30s Wednesday night
–All precip ships out by late morning on Thursday, and then the colder westerlies blow into town
–Highs will be in the upper 30s to low 40s Thursday, but then drop in the afternoon as west winds gust 25-35mph or so
–Windy conditions continue into Thursday night with lows in the 20s
–Friday through Sunday will be seasonably cold with highs in the upper 20s to low/mid 30s under partly sunny skies with light northwest flow

Have a great day!
