Western Mass Weather for February 24, 2020

[AFTER TODAY CONDITIONS GO DOWNHILL THIS WEEK] GORGEOUS MONDAY LEADS TO LIGHT SCATTERED SHOWERS FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON/NIGHT WITH SOME LIGHT SNOW/ICE MIX POSSIBLE IN SVT AT NIGHT… PRECIP PICKS UP WEDNESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT WITH A CHANGE TO SNOW BY LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING IN THE HIGH TERRAIN OF SVT AND POSSIBLY NORTHEASTERN BERKSHIRES INTO WESTERN FRANKLIN COUNTY… A COLD WEEKEND FOLLOWS… (8:25am Monday)

Good morning everybody, sorry for the late report today. To be honest, I had a very long, very rare musical day yesterday as part of the Back To The Baystate program at a very full Academy of Music in Northampton where I played onstage with some old, dear friends and got to reconnect and spend time with so many of the amazingly talented musicians that enriched my young life back in the 90s as young budding musician myself, and who continue to contribute to making WMass such a special place in the world. It was a glorious day, to be sure.

I imagine some of you don’t necessarily care about any of that, but that’s why I am late *raises hand like a team member who made a mistake*

SUMMARY
–Another fine day arrives, with highs in the upper 40s to upper 50s under mostly sunny skies
–Clouds will increase tonight with lows near freezing
–A mostly cloudy Tuesday morning will give way to some scattered light rain showers, with a bit of snow or sleet possible in the mountains of southern VT
–Highs will reach the mid to upper 40s with lows in the low to mid 30s
–On Wednesday, we’ll see low pressure track northeast through the Great Lakes which will develop more southeasterly flow into the region, producing steadier rain showers in the valley with highs in the low 40s
–Some mixed snow and ice will be possible in the high terrain of northwest MA, eastern NY, and southern VT
–Lows Wednesday night will drop into the low to mid 30s
–For Wednesday night into Thursday morning, a secondary low will be developing along a front draped off of the parent low tracking into southeast Canada
–This secondary low looks to pass somewhere over CT or MA
–This may drag colder air late Wednesday night into Thursday morning and flip folks to snow in elevations above 1500 feet in southern VT, northwest MA, and eastern NY with some accumulations possible
–Expect rain showers for the rest of us, with maybe some mix at times
–I will have to refine this part of the outlook going forward, but anyone traveling from Brattleboro south down I-91, or even east shouldn’t have little to no travel problems Thursday morning
–Highs will reach the upper 30s Thursday and then drop as a cold front sweeps through, with lows hitting 20 degrees by Thursday night
–Friday through Sunday look cold but fair with highs in the mid 20s to low 30s, but as is the case in this pattern, when cold air comes in, it suppresses storms south, and we get precipitation when milder air arrives

Have a great day!
