Western Mass Regional Weather for July 28, 2022

Good morning folks, we’ve got fairly comfortable humidity in place this morning but that is leaving the building as humidity rises with a warm frontal passage. The warm front moves through, as do some isolated showers, then more scattered strong/severe storms arrive late afternoon and tonight, followed by Friday showers, a lovely Saturday to Monday period, along with the potential for more showers Tuesday, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, I’m expecting a busy day of weather monitoring, and additional reporting by afternoon and evening with our severe storm threat, so I’m gonna bust open the brand new package of double–dashes that were just delivered to my doorstep yesterday afternoon, and then scattered them about below, so here we go!

SUMMAH-RY
–Speaking of doorsteps, we’ve got a warm front on ours right now, and it’s already pushing northeast into western CT and the Berkshires
–This is setting off small, isolated, fast-moving showers, quick downpours, and maybe a quick rumble of thunder through mid/late morning
–This front pushes through the region today, and will produce an increase in humidity
–We should also see some more partly sunny skies by late morning into early afternoon, which will help destabilize the increasing humid atmosphere (which just means it will make the air more buoyant, or able to rise more easily, which helps produce storms and showers)
–Through 4pm, isolated showers or a thunderstorm is possible, but most will stay dry
–Highs will reach well into the 80s, with upper 80s in the central and southern Pioneer Valley
–A cold front draped off of surface low to our north, and amplified by an upper level low in southeast Canada, will approach the region late this afternoon, sweeping newborn strong to severe thunderstorms into eastern NY and possible the Berkshires or southern VT by 4 or 5pm the way it looks now
–Scattered clusters of showers, downpours, and thunderstorms will then move through our region between mainly 5-10pm from west to east, and some damaging wind gusts along with torrential rain and hail are possible
–Lows tonight will bottom out in the upper 50s to upper 60s from north to south (SVT to NCT) as showers quit
–On Friday, a second and final cold front will move through in the evening, but much of the day should be dry with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 80s
–The scattered showers move into the region by late afternoon and evening, mostly along and south of the Pike
–Lows drop to the upper 50s to low 60s
–The weekend then looks LOVELY, with high pressure building into the region and northwest flow producing dry conditions, mostly sunny skies, and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s Saturday and the low to mid 80s Sunday, with lows mid to upper 50s Saturday night and lows near 60º Sunday night
–The Monday to Wednesday period looks pretty sweet too, though some showers or a thunderstorm is possible Tuesday afternoon
–Highs will increase to 85-90º through this period
–By late week, hot and humid conditions look to return with temps well into the 90s and a potential for our second heat wave of the 2022 summer season, so stay tuned for updates

Thanks for reading, have a great day, and check back with me here and on Twitter (see link below) for updates on our severe weather potential this afternoon and evening!

AND REMEMBER…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
