Western Mass Weather Regional Report for June 28, 2021

HEAT ADVISORIES CONTINUE FOR ALL THROUGH TOMORROW EVENING… THEN FOR THE PIONEER VALLEY, CMASS AND NORTH-CENTRAL/NORTHEAST CT THROUGH WEDNESDAY… 7:05pm MON…

Good evening everybody, a few folks in the northern Berkshires, Taconics, and southwest VT got some showers and maybe a rumble of thunder, but generally we were dry across the region today.

There are about 300 outages across the region, mostly in Hampden and Worcester County, so hopefully those get resolved soon.

Temps are still in the 80s and low 90s for the most part, and will settle down into the low 70s overnight, with mid to upper 60s up in SVT/SWNH, and northwest MA.

Very humid conditions continue.

Tomorrow is a copy of today, so gear up for another round of heat and humidity, except we should see more shower and thunderstorm development scattered about southern New England vs. today.

Highs will be in the upper 80s to mid/upper 90s with heat indices over 100º once again, and lows in the 70s with very humid conditions.

Wednesday is the final day of our heat wave, with highs in the mid 80s to mid 90s, and more afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows will be in the mid 60s to low 70s.

Temps tamp down on Thursday as a cold front tries to work through the region, dropping highs into the 80s with more numerous showers and storms as the convergence zone (where cooler and hotter air clash and cause rising air) begins to filter into our region. It will still be quite humid.

By Friday, humidity should come down, and temps will come down further into the 70s.

I will have a complete update tomorrow morning about the holiday weekend, hope you are able to get some sleep tonight!

*ALERT* DANGEROUS COMBINED HEAT AND HUMIDITY LEVELS OVER THE NEXT 3 DAYS, ESPECIALLY FOR THE INFIRM, RESPIRATORY-CHALLENGED, AND OUTSIDE WORKERS WHO DON’T HYDRATE PROPERLY… HEAT ADVISORIES HAVE EXPANDED THROUGH WEDNESDAY TO COVER ALL OF WMASS, CMASS, N.CT., SW.NH, AND EASTERN WINDHAM COUNTY IN S.VT… EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS MAY BE HOISTED FOR THE SPRINGFIELD / HARTFORD CORRIDOR IF DEWPOINTS OVERPERFORM… HEAT INDICES LIKELY PUSH TO THE UPPER 90S TO MID 100S TODAY AND TOMORROW… RELIEF IS ON THE WAY BY LATE WEEK INTO NEXT WEEKEND WHEN TEMPS COME BACK DOWN TO THE 70S AND 80S… 6:50am MON…

Good morning everybody, the title of Glenn Frey’s first post-Eagles big hit is most appropriate for the next 3 days, as the heat is most certainly ON.

During this heat wave be sure to stay hydrated, stay cool if at all possible, wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes, stay out of the sun for prolonged periods of time, and stay hydrated.

Did I mention to stay hydrated? Also, be sure to stay hydrated.

One last thing – STAY HYDRATED.

REPORT
Despite a few clouds around this morning, they will likely dissipate and with a powerful, anomalous upper high pressure ridge to our southeast, the clockwise flow around the surface high will pump high heat and humidity into the region today, tomorrow, and Wednesday before some relief works into the region from the northwest Thursday and especially Friday.

Expect mostly sunny skies today with highs in the low to upper 90s, with highest temps in the Pioneer Valley floor from Greenfield south to Hartford.

The only place that escapes the heat is southern VT west of Brattleboro. While Bennington should reach the low 90s much of the southern Greens will average between the low to upper 80s.

Regardless, humidity will be high everywhere, with dewpoints in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

This will push heat indices in the mid 90s to mid 100s across the region, with the worst of the heat pulsing between 10am and 4pm.

An isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible in the later afternoon, but most if not all of us stay dry.

Lows tonight will be in the upper 60s to low 70s, and it will be very humid.

The best chance for any Excessive Heat Warnings to replace Heat Advisories in the Springfield-Hartford corridor would be on Tuesday.

Highs again will soar into the upper 80s to upper 90s, and high dewpoints in the upper 60s to mid 70s will continue to create an oppressively hot and humid Tuesday under mostly sunny skies.

We’ll see a slightly increased chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, with torrential rain possible given how much moisture will be present.

Lows will only bottom out into the upper 60s to low 70s with a shower possible.

Wednesday is the final day of the heat wave, with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s, and very humid conditions continuing.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms, some strong, are expected later Wednesday afternoon, and into the evening.

Depending on the track of a strengthening upper level low near the Great Lakes, we should see more showers and thunderstorms form in our region Thursday and Friday, and possibly into Saturday, but we’ll need to refine things as we get closer.

The bottom line is that the heat wave breaks Thursday, but it will still be quite warm with highs in the low to upper 80s.

By Friday and into the weekend, temps really back down, landing in the 70s for highs Friday through Sunday, including the 4th of July.

Stay tuned for updates on the late-week and holiday weekend forecast, and in the meantime, get ready to protect against high heat and humidity over the next 3 days.

Have a great day and stay as healthy as you can!
