HURRICANE SAM IS ON THE WATCH LIST FOR NEXT WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… IT LIKELY STAYS OUT TO SEA, BUT NEEDS TO BE MONITORED TO SEE HOW A LARGE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL EITHER TUCK IT IN CLOSER OR REJECT IT EAST AND AWAY… UNTIL THEN, MOSTLY DRIER AND COOLER WEATHER WORKS INTO THE REGION, ESPECIALLY BY MID WEEK… 7:45am SAT…
Good morning folks, we’ve got temps in the 40s and 50s and had some patchy morning fog form in a few place around the region, with sunshine in others as we get the day started.
We’ve got a stalled front along the east coast with some clouds there, and an incoming wave to our west that will filter in some high clouds over the WMass region this afternoon, but generally we should be dealing with mostly sunny skies today and highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s from high terrain to the valley with light winds.
Clouds build tonight as a wave works off of the waters to our south and through eastern MA. This could back showers westward enough to impact parts of our region along and east of the I-91 corridor. Any showers should be scattered and it’s hard to see us getting more than a tenth of an inch of rain, if that. Most should stay east of us, along and east of a line from Willimantic, CT to Worcester, MA.
Lows tonight will drop into the low to mid 50s and some patchy fog is again possible.
For Sunday, clouds will be on the decrease and a mostly sunny day should develop before noon, and push highs into the 65-70º range, with lows in the upper 40s to low 50s under mostly clear skies.
For Monday and Tuesday, we have a warm front / cold front combo that quickly tracks through the region, which will bring us a few showers Monday night into Tuesday, but no big whoop, really.
Expect partly to mostly sunny skies on Monday with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s and lows in the low to mid 50s Monday night when some showers will move in, and possibly a sub-severe thunderstorm (low chance for that, though).
Tuesday morning features a few showers moving through with our cold front, with sunshine developing by afternoon. Highs will reach the mid 60s to low 70s, and we’ll dry out and cool down Tuesday night with lows in the mid to upper 40s! Chilly!
Wednesday through Friday represents another step down into Autumn, an upper level trough delivers cooler air into New England.
Highs will generally be in the 60-65º range across the region, with lows squarely in the 40s, with some low 40s in our high terrain. Do we nudge down into the upper 30s in parts of southern VT? It’s possible, but bottom line is the first hints of The Coolening are being signaled.
Lastly, I will be watching Hurricane Sam, as it looks to track north of the Bahamas (you can see it signaled well east of Florida on the attached chart).
Whenever you have a track like that, New England has to be in monitoring mode because if you get the right alignment of large high pressure wrapping around, down, and into the east of a tropical system located there, it can tuck it closer into the coastline instead of allowing it to escape out to sea and away.
There is no great consensus that Sam will be anything other than a fish storm at the moment, but it bears watching for sure.
Have a great day!
