Good morning folks, we’ve got a slumbery, showery Saturday ahead with lazy lollygagging stacked low pressure system near the Appalachians that will slowly and without any real aim in life glide northeast toward the eastern Great Lakes region, slowly sending clusters, blobs, and spokes of showers north into our region at times.
The satellite shot is one of a decaying storm that has occluded, meaning it’s surface inflow of warm air into the low center has been cut off and lifted skyward. Mid-latitude, cold-core storms feed off of temperature contrasts, and once all the air around them is roughly similar they begin to dissipate like when Aragorn in Lord of the Rings releases the purgatoried ghoul army from his charge in Return of the King.
Anybody?
Sorry, I’m an LOTR movie nut, too.
Ok, now that I’ve confused some of you, and maybe put some quizzical looks on your faces, I’m going to snap us back into the task at hand, and employ a shift into a flurry of double–dashes to bring this report home. Let us commence.
SUMMARY
–Patchy fog will burn off this morning
–Highs today will reach the mid to upper 50s with showers at times, some heavy
–These will be tracking south to north through the region
–Easterly winds may gust up to 25mph at times
–As we get to this evening, a secondary low pressure system will develop along a frontal boundary and lift north through RI and CMass, most likely passing over the City of Worcester
–This will bring heavier showers through the region, and potentially some non-severe thunderstorms
–Again, some folks will see lighter showers at times, others heavier, some will get downpours with thunder
–Lows will fall into the upper 40s to low 50s with patchy fog
–For Sunday, the secondary low will be north of us, taking the heaviest rain with it
–We will still be under the influence of the decaying upper low into the afternoon, and as such, a few scattered showers are possible at times, but not nearly as wet as today
–Highs will reach the upper 50s to low 60s, so it will have a mild feel, and by Halloween evening, we should be mostly dry for any trick or treating, Rag Shag Parade walking in Florence, etc.
–On Monday, a west wind picks up behind the old upper low which will be well northeast of our WMass region
–It will be a beautiful day as high pressure nudges into the region, clearing out skies, with mostly sunny conditions and highs in the 50s to near 60º
–Lows Monday night will be in the 30s
–Tuesday and Wednesday look partly sunny on average as a trough begins to set up in the eastern U.S., which means cooler temps will start to work into the region through a few cold frontal passages, which will at first be on the dry side
–Highs will be in the 40s to low 50s both days, with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s as the frosts finally are rolling in now
–By Thursday and Friday we have to watch for the potential of either coastal storm development or a sharper cold front with the potential to release some snowflakes into the air across the high terrain, and we can’t rule out the ground becoming white in some spots!
So stay tuned for updates, I am off to make chicken vegetable soup and play some guitar.
