Western Mass Weather for October 24, 2021 (updated 6:15pm)

STORMY WEATHER MOVES IN LATE TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING, PEAKING ON TUESDAY LATE MORNING, THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING BEFORE LETTING UP WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON INTO THURSDAY… HEAVY RAIN, STRONG GUSTY WINDS, AND HIGH WAVES FOR MARINERS OFF OF THE SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND COAST WITH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS IN SOUTHEAST MA ARE ALL ON THE TABLE… A LULL LATE WEEK GIVES WAY TO MORE RAIN AS EARLY AS FRIDAY AFTERNOON INTO THE WEEKEND… LOOKING COLDER INTO EARLY TO MID NOVEMBER… FOUR-LETTER WORDS BEGINNING WITH “S” CAN’T BE RULED OUT… 6:15PM SUNDAY…

Good evening everybody, I hope you got outside and enjoyed what was a lovely Autumn day across the WMass region. I got outside for a nice nature walk, and it was thoroughly enjoyable to get some fresh air and be in the woods.

As for our weather going forward, we’ve got a dry evening ahead, but clouds will be thickening up and showers will arrive around or just after midnight, with lows dropping into the upper 30s to low 40s with some patchy fog possible late.

For tomorrow, we can expect a showery commute with rain moving into the region ahead and north of a warm front that tries to lift northeast through the region, but I believe it won’t make it much past southern CT and southeast NY, and MAYBE to southern portions of Litchfield and southwest Hartford Counties in northern CT.

Southwest of the front, temps soar into the 60s, but north of it, highs will only reach the low 50s or so, maybe even chillier in southern VT.

One thing is for certain – the front will focus a rather large band of rainfall across the region on Monday morning into the early afternoon, before it lifts northeast and through the region, leaving us with some patches of drizzle and scattered lighter showers for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
and remember that if you want to check out or buy one or two of my local weather wall calendars, that’d be awesome.

However, that’s just phase 1 of this storm. Phase 2 will have our low center will push east into the Ohio Valley, and decay into the Lake Erie region with colder temperatures associated with the storm clashing with the warmer temps east and off of the Mid-Atlantic coast.

This will induce secondary low pressure development south of Long Island Monday night into Tuesday, but exactly where the storm tracks will be key in determining wind and rain impacts.

Rain will be pushing back into the WMass region around or after midnight into the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday morning, and is expected to last all day Tuesday, reaching as far north as southern VT and southwest NH, with heavier rains in the southern half of MA down into CT and RI.

Rain will fall heavily at times, and as the storm makes its closest pass to us Tuesday late afternoon into the evening, we will see north and northeast winds pick up and possibly gust as high as 30-50mph which could cause some isolated power outages Tuesday night into the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning.

Any morning showers on Wednesday should wind down, and we should get a break between our Tuesday storm and next weekend’s storm, which is too early to discuss at length.

Our upcoming system may produce upwards of 2-4″ of rain, and possibly a little more if it tracks close enough to the coast, so I’ll continue to monitor that and update info to you as I learn more.

Thursday looks like the pick of this week, with a partly sunny day possible with highs in the mid to upper 50s, otherwise expect rain and clouds to dominate.

I’m going to remain focused on the first half of this week for the most part, because if things line up well, we could have a serious rainy October Nor’easter on our hands as we head toward November.

Hey, at least it’s not looking like it did one decade ago around this time!! ;-)

…………………………………………………………….
Good morning everybody, we’ve got a chilly start with temps in the 30s to low 40s. Please let me know if you got frost today when you awoke.

Today is truly the calm before the storm, with a gorgeous Fall day on tap, perfect for outdoor autumnal activities in abundance.

Skies will be mostly sunny, although clouds will build in the mid and high levels by mid to late afternoon, and then lower and fill in tonight.

Highs will reach the low to upper 50s, and a few spots may hit 60º in north-central CT. Lows tonight will drop into the 40s and showers will arrive either side of midnight west of the I-91 corridor in VT, MA and CT, as well as the Taconics of eastern NY.

A fairly stratiform rain band will develop along and north of a warm front that will extend east off of a strong low center that will be pushing into the Ohio Valley on Monday.

We’re going to be waking up to a wet morning commute, and it could rain heavily at times in the morning. The steadier band of rain may lift north into the Rt. 2 corridor on north into SVT and SWNH, leaving folks south of Rt. 2 with a few showers, but a bit of a lull in the action before the low center finally tracks to the Mid-Atlantic coast, offshore, and strengthens to our south by Tuesday.

Monday highs will only reach the upper 40s to low 50s, and lows will be in the 40s as rain redevelops, again, after midnight, and picks up during Tuesday into Tuesday night.

It looks stormy at the moment, and I’d ask that you please check in with my evening report tonight, as I will update you with the latest information, as this storm could be potent.

Tuesday looks very rainy, with heavy bands moving through as high pressure to our north feeds into low pressure to our south, possibly causing a potent low to drop down to 980 millibars, which is STRONG. This could produce easterly winds of 20-40mph along with a few inches of rainfall. Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s, and some localized flooding may be possible, and this could last into Tuesday night.

By Wednesday, a few showers are still possible early, and 1-4″ is possible for total rainfall, (and maybe even more), so stay tuned for updates.

Our lull looks to move in for Wednesday night into Thursday which will be the nicest day of the week the way it looks now.

But by Friday into the weekend, a second potent coastal system may set up and paste us with more rain and wind.

I will update this evening about all of the above, but the bottom line is that it’s looking seasonably cool, and quite storm this coming week!

Have a great day, and soak up the sunshine, and remember that if you want to check out or buy one or two of my local weather wall calendars, that’d be awesome.
