Western Mass Weather for November 24, 2021

6:45AM-WED: THANKSGIVING TRAVEL THROUGH ABOUT 10PM ON OUR MILD THANKSGIVING DAY SHOULD BE SUPPORTIVE OF ZERO WEATHER-RELATED TRAVEL ISSUES… SHOWERS DO MOVE IN AROUND MIDNIGHT THURSDAY NIGHT AND LAST INTO FRIDAY MORNING… COLD FRONT PASSES WITH LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS INTO THE BERKSHIRES AND SOUTHERN VT FOR FRIDAY INTO THE AFTERNOON… GUSTY WINDS AND COLD AIR MOVE BACK IN TO START THE WEEKEND WITH POTENTIAL FOR SOME LIGHT SNOW BY MONDAY AS METEOROLOGICAL WINTER APPROACHES NEXT WEEK…

Good morning folks, how about some single digits for wind chill readings to put some sadness, I mean pep in your step! It’s wicked chilly out there this morning for late November. Thankfully (a tired pun, but one worthy of milking) our Thanksgiving Day will be the mildest of the next 7, as a busier pattern of weaker systems may begin this Friday into next week. Before we jump into the details, I’ve got a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, who just opened a new location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER BULLETIN:
–Good morning everybody, northwest winds have gusted to 25mph during the pre-dawn hours, which has placed wind chills into the mid to upper SINGLE digits for some this morning, yikes!
–High pressure will nose into the region, and any gusty winds should slacken with the passing of the day
–Expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s
–For tonight, we’ll have another very cold night with dry conditions and lows in the upper teens to mid 20s, for another winter taste
–For Thanksgiving Day, we’ll enjoy the mildest day we’ll experienced over the next 7, with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s under partly sunny skies as a cold front approaches from the west, set to sweep any mildness right out to sea as fast as it arrived
–At least our mild atmospheric sliver is well-timed! Enjoy it!
–It’ll be dry for just about the entire day and night Thursday, but clouds will build late, and showers should arrive with the incoming cold front around or even a little before midnight
–A fairly widespread rain is expected after midnight into Friday morning as the front passes through, possibly ending as some snow showers in the high terrain of the southern Greens down into the northern Berkshires and western Franklin County
–Friday will see cold air advect back into the region, with highs only making it up to about the upper 30s to mid 40s
–Northwest winds will gust over 30mph by later Friday afternoon behind the front as the lake effect machine sets up once again, bringing some snow showers to the Berkshires and SVT, with some light accumulations in those areas by Saturday morning
–Lows Friday night will be in the 20s as snow showers wane by morning
–The weekend looks cold and fair, with highs mainly in the 30s both days… maybe some folks reach the low 40s in northern CT by Sunday
–Next week signals the potential for a zonal flow across the northern part of the country and southern Canada, which may bring weaker, but more systems through starting Monday, then Wednesday, and maybe by end of week
–Monday would be a light snow producer, but it’s just something to monitor for now

I wish you safe travels today and tomorrow and through the weekend, and hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanks so much for your readership, your support, encouragement, and all of your kindnesses, I am deeply thankful and grateful for all of you, and wish you well!
