6:55AM-MON: BLUSTERY AND COLD THIS AFTERNOON, TONIGHT, TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT WITH WIND CHILLS IN THE LOW TO MID TEENS BY EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING… THANKSGIVING DAY WILL BE MILD AND DRY WITH HIGHS CRESTING INTO THE LOW TO MID 50s… ANOTHER SHARP COLD FRONT PLUNGES BACK INTO COLDER TEMPS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WITH SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE AND SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS IN THE HIGH TERRAIN…
Good morning folks, many of us had either side of a quarter inch of rainfall overnight, and the back/western edge of the rain shield associated with our incoming cold front is moving into the Pioneer Valley as I type.
As exceptionally frigid air builds over the state of Alaska which may have impacts for us in December, we’ve got our coldest air of the season moving early this week. There’s details to detail, but before we jump into those, I’ve got a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, who just opened a new location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER BULLETIN:
Good morning everybody, our nice mild morning is going to likely end up becoming recorded as our high temps for the day as a cold front moves through the region and drops temps sharply this afternoon.
We’ve had showers overnight, adding up to a tenth of an inch for some, and up to a quarter or third of an inch for others, in general. There may be a few outliers in either direction, but that’s the general gist for rain totals – No Big Whoop type numbers.
For today, showers now moving into the valley early morning will continue to track east and away.
After the cold front clears our region, morning clouds should give way to afternoon sunshine, and our northwest winds will pick up and gust 20-30mph at times as temps plummet into the 30s by sunset to dinner time, so prepare for the temp/wind change if you are heading out for a long day this morning.
For tonight, blustery conditions will continue. Winds should tamp down to about 20mph in gusts at times, with partly cloudy skies and lows in the low to mid 20s or so.
For Tuesday and Tuesday night, a dry secondary cold frontal passage will bring our first legit taste of the incoming Winter of 2021-2022.
We’ll have abundant sunshine Tuesday (and Wednesday, for that matter), but winds will be gusting 20-30mph again, and high air temps will only be in the low to mid 30s all day long, with sub-freezing wind chill readings – #Winter.
At night, it should still be breezy and with temps dropping into the upper teens at night, wind chills will be down into the low to mid teens, so first thing Wednesday morning will be COLD.
High pressure builds into the region and slackens our wind, producing mostly sunny skies with temps rising into the upper 30s to low 40s, and with mostly clear skies at night with lows in the mid 20s.
As our high pressure cell passes south of us, our flow will back out of the south, and this will give us what I believe will be ideal Thanksgiving Day weather conditions, with partly sunny skies, milder temps and highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s, and zero precipitation. Lows will sit down to near freezing, and any rain and snow showers should off until around or after midnight, so just about all Thanksgiving travel before and during the holiday should be super supportive.
Friday, however, looks like another cold front will sweep our one day crest into the 50s away and to the east, and drop us back into cooler temperatures for Friday through the weekend.
In addition, a storm passing to our north may track close enough to push some snow showers into the region, and with an upper level low sliding in behind that Canadian surface low, a few other waves may move through and kick in the lake effect and upslope slow machines, providing some light snow accumulations for northwest MA, the Taconics, and southern VT at least, and possibly the Monadnock Region and Litchfield Hills of NW.CT Friday afternoon and night.
After highs on Friday in the low to mid 40s, we look like we’re back into the 30s to low 40s for next weekend, so cold air is coming back.
Finally, there is a signal of snow pack developing up in Quebec and northern New England from this Friday system into early December.
This may help build retain cold air just to our north, such that if we get storms to develop and track “right”, we could be dealing with wintry weather in southern New England by first or second week in December, but there are no specific signals as of yet.
It’s just something to watch for now, and I will keep you updated through all of it.
