Good morning folks, while not as devastating as the wind event before it, the one last night certainly caused a substantial amount of damage across the region, and we’ve still got about 7000 outages in northern CT this morning, and about 2500 in WMass/CMass combined, with half of those located up in Franklin County.
DAMAGE REPORTS
https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=BOX&product=LSR&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off
That link covers NWS-reported damage reports for all of WMass except Berkshire County and all of northern CT except Litchfield County.
For those uncovered counties, and southern VT, the public doesn’t tend to report to NWS very reliably, as there was only one report down in Litchfield County, but you get the idea – a number of trees and wires came down last night, and some property damage was experienced as well. I hope everybody’s person stayed safe, at the very least, and hope my reporting gave you a helpful heads up.
MOVING FORWARD
As for today, it’ll be blustery at times with west winds gusting 20-30mph with a new air mass moving in for a spell. Expect dry weather, partly to mostly sunny skies, and highs in the low 40s over the high terrain, and in the mid to upper 40s in the lower elevations of the WMass region.
For tonight, it’ll be mostly clear with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s, chilly indeed!
By tomorrow, another cold front will be on the way, and this will send some scattered lake effect snow showers into the region, possibly in the form of rain for some. Highs will be in the mid 30s to low 40s and it will be partly sunny on average, with cloudier periods at times.
Lows plummet Tuesday night into the low 20s with fresh northwest winds gusting over 20mph. These variables will combine to produce wind chills (see attached graphic) in the low to mid teens for some of us, and maybe even near zero in the southern Green Mountains in VT!
For Wednesday, an upper level trough swipes its icy finger through the region, and highs will only reach the upper 20s to low 30s.. for highs!! At least it will be sunny, but northwest winds will continue to gust over 20mph at times, so it’ll be a full-on wintry day here in mid-November.
In fact, lows will be the coldest yet, dropping down into the mid to upper teens! BRRRR!!!!
After high pressure stops sitting on us with its icy bum (nice image for some who haven’t coffee yet, right? I’ll be here all week… no seriously, I will!), said high will scoot south and then south east of us through the weekend.
This will gives us fair weather Thursday through at least the first half of Sunday with highs in the 40s on Thursday and near freezing for lows Thursday night, and then highs in the low to mid 50s Friday through Sunday, which is pretty much seasonable. Expect partly sunny skies throughout, with a few showers possible by Sunday afternoon.
