Good evening everybody, I will produce a more comprehensive report for tomorrow morning about our upcoming wintry weather, but wanted to get you some listed points of importance this evening, as impactful wintry weather appears to be on the way for WMass and surrounding counties, including wind, cold, snow, ice and rain. I’ve had so many tomatoes hurled at me my skin is red, but it could always be REDDER! So here goes!
–Northwest winds begin to blow tonight in the wake of our departing storm
–Winds could gust up to 25mph or so tonight, with lows in the 20s
–Winds will increase to over 30mph in gusts tomorrow, and possible as high as 40-50mph in the high terrain
–Highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s tomorrow, and probably colder in the high terrain of WMass and SVT
–It will be sunny Wed and Thurs
–Lows Wed. night will be in the high single digits in SVT and up to the high teens in the valley and N.CT – very cold!!!
–Highs on Thursday will be in the 30s as clouds increase late in the day
–Snow arrives before midnight, and most likely sooner (like around 8pm or so) south of the Pike
–Today’s departing storm pulls in the cold and SUPER dry air into our region, which sets up a perfect overrunning surface over our region for the Thursday night into Friday storm
–In addition, high pressure to our northeast will dam in this cold air into Friday morning
–Our coastal low will run northeast and slam into this cold air with warmer, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico
–The collision will produce accumulating snow Thursday night into Friday morning in our area
–Right now, it looks like anywhere from 1-4″ from N.CT up to the Rt. 2 corridor, with 3-6+” possible north of Rt. 2
–Sleet and freezing rain will make matters worse for folks south of Rt. 2, the way it looks now, and we could have a prolonged period of icing as warmer air works in a mile or two up, but cold sub-freezing air is trapped at the surface
–While many of us “should” change to rain by later on Friday morning, I am not buying that just yet
–This is a strong cold air damming signal, and we could ice for a while on Friday, and some folks could stay all snow and ice, so stay tuned for updates
Our storm will depart by Friday afternoon/early evening, but will be our first winter storm of the incoming cold season.
The weekend looks to be on the milder side, and feature fair weather, except for some snow showers possible Sunday night as a Clipper whizzes by to our north.
Thanksgiving looks fairly cold, but no storms in sight for Wed or Thurs at the moment, but please stay tuned for any future changes.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES NOW POSTED FOR SVT (EXCLUDING EASTERN WINDHAM COUNTY)… SNOW, SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN HAS CHANGED TO RAIN FOR MANY, BUT SOME AREAS MAY STILL SEE SOME ICING THIS AM BELOW 1500 FEET, AND SOME SNOW AND SLEET ABOVE THAT ELEVATION… PLEASE POST REPORTS BELOW… UPDATE ON OUR LATE-WEEK WINTER STORM COMES TONIGHT…
(6:45am Tues)
Good morning everybody, we’ve got a wet morning that we’re waking up and heading out into, and it’s cold with temperatures in the 30s.
I’ve heard reports of some folks seeing snow overnight, but all reports I can see indicate we’ve changec to rain. Still, some areas are at the freezing mark, like northern Berkshire County and southern VT so there is concern for leftover icing that may be occurring.
In the southern Green Mountains, it’s a different story, where 2-3″ of snow was reported in western Windham County and eastern Bennington County, and some higher elevations are still snowing. They should end up with 2-5″ of snow up that way, with the most in the highest peaks.

Otherwise, rain will continue into early afternoon before letting up and clearing out of here. Snow showers will be possible this evening as cold air advection sets in powerfully from west to east. Expect lows tonight to drop into the teens and 20s.
Wednesday will be sunny but freezing cold with highs in the low to mid 30s and west winds gusting to 40mph, driving wind chills into the single digits and teens. HIghs will only be in the 20s in SVT! Lows will be in the teens, and single digits in the high terrain.
Thursday is a few degrees milder, but still cold and sunny, with clouds late in the day.
We are still looking at the potential for the first widespread accumulating snowfall of the season late Thursday night into Friday.
A hilltown snow and ice storm that extends up into southern VT and southweste NH is a legitimate concern, whereas snow and ice in the Pioneer Valley would likely change to rain.
Still, this is a POWERFUL blast of cold, Arctic air moving in for Wed and Thurs, so a concern for extended icing even in the valley exists.
I will keep you updated on all of it, so stay tuned to this page.
Have a great day, and stay warm and dry…
