Western Mass Weather for November 10, 2021

6:55AM-WED: LIGHT SHOWERS THIS MORNING NORTH OF THE PIKE LIFT OUT BY MID-MORNING OR SO, BEGETTING A BREEZY DAY WITH INCREASING SUNSHINE, MILD… QUITE COLD TONIGHT… NICE THURSDAY ON TAP, DRY, BUT RAIN MOVES IN LATE THURSDAY NIGHT AND IT SHOULD BE RAINING EVERYWHERE FRIDAY MORNING, HEAVY AT TIMES WITH GUSTY SOUTHERLIES…. NICER WEEKEND, BUT COOLER, AND SOME MIXED RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE SATURDAY NIGHT AND AGAIN TO START THE WEEK WITH A WEAK LAKE EFFECT TRYING TO FIRE UP… MY 2022 WEATHER CALENDAR SALE (WHICH USUALLY SELLS OUT) ENDS A WEEK FROM SUNDAY… I DO APOLOGIZE FOR THE VETERAN’S DAY MISTAKE ON THIS YEAR’S CALENDAR, WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN, ALREADY FIXED FOR THE 2022 EDITION AND OFF TO PRESS…

Good morning, everybody, rise and shower! Well, for folks north of the Pike anyway. We’ve actually got a nicer day heading our way after the showers track through, but heavier rains are coming for late Thursday night and Friday before we cool down this weekend and some of us see some mixed rain and snow showers.

Before we jump into all of the details below, I’ve got a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, who just opened a new location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER SUMMARY:
–Good morning peeps, we’re starting off our Wednesday morning with some patchy fog (Berkshires, at least)
–We’ve also got some light showers, mainly north of the Pike up along the Rt. 2 corridor and into SVT and SWNH, tracking east
–The lil’ low center bringing this activity through is tracking well north of us, and will keep on truckin’ into Atlantic Canada
–We’ll see developing sunshine, with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s, and a touch cooler in the southern Greens
–Northwest winds will gust to 25mph at times this afternoon as higher pressures and cooler air works in behind this cold front
–Winds slacken tonight, we dry and clear out, and radiational cooling maximizes
–Lows will drop into the mid to upper 20s
–By Thursday, we’ve got one last dry day before moistcha saturates these lands
–Expect partly sunny skies on average for Thursday with highs in the low to mid 50s as high pressure departs the region, with lows in the mid to upper 30s

–A mature low pressure system winds up into the Great Lakes, and sends its outward-most spoke of energy from south to north through our region
–Along this area of rainfall will form another secondary low pressure system Friday and work north up the Hudson River Valley, spreading heavier rains into New England just east of it
–Clouds build Thursday night, and showers arrive before dawn, in northern CT first, then later in MA and VT/NH
–Friday looks pretty soak-y with rain, heavy at times, and even a thunderstorm is possible
–The wind component is uncertain, as a temperature inversion could be in place (warmer aloft than at the ground) and these inversions prevent wind from mixing down to the surface
–However, it could be windy aloft in the mountains and hilltowns and fairly light in the valley, so I will have to update this piece
–Regardless, a wet day on the way, with .75″-1.5″ expected and mild highs in the mid 50s to low 60s with showers quitting in the evening and lows in the mid 30s to low 40s
–For the weekend, we’re cooler for sure, with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s with sunshine Saturday, but another low pressure wave may move through in the mid-level cyclonic (i.e. counterclockwise) flow in the eastern U.S. after our rainy Friday
–This looks to arrive Saturday night when we’re cold, in the upper 20s to low 30s, and so another round of mixed rain and snow showers may work through
–Sunday looks colder, with highs in the 40s under partial sunshine and lows near freezing
–We’ll also have to watch for some lake effect type rain or snow showers, very scattered in nature, for Sunday night into early next week in the Berkshires, western hills, SVT and Litchfields, but more on that as we get closer
–We’re looking at a cooler week next week for sure, so enjoy flirtations with the 60º this week, they are fleeting at this point

Have a great day, folks, and please consider for some of your holiday gift shopping my 2022 Weather Wall Calendar, as the sale ends a just week from this Sunday and they usually sell out (secure order link below).
