LIFE
Good morning everybody, if you’re reading this, you’re still here on Planet Earth. Hopefully you’ve got a pantry or a fridge that has food in it. Hopefully your heat is working and you have fuel or wood. If not, I hope it turns around for you. Being a human is messy a lot of times, but it’s a stroke of good fortune to be here now, and to appreciate that for a minute, even if things are lousy overall. Consider looking for one thing today that is good in your life or that you appreciate or enjoy. Sometimes that one thing can make a day amidst all the challenges or upsets in life, I’ve found.

WEATHER
Anyway, as our dual low pressure system (one in the Gulf of Maine and the parent low pressing into Quebec) tracks northeast, any light showers, drizzle or patchy fog will be clearing as colder and drier air works into the region from west to east today.

High will only be in the upper 30s to low 40s today, with lows in the mid to upper 20s under partly sunny skies.

Given the resulting pressure gradient from incoming high to departing low pressure, west winds will gust 30-50mph this afternoon and evening, and some isolated power outages or tree damage is possible as we clear.

In addition, with residual low level moisture, the west winds may combined with orographic uplift on the west-facing slopes of the Taconics, Berkshires and Greens to produce some scattered snow showers today and tonight.

For Sunday and Monday, high pressure builds overhead and we get even more drying to land on our shores, which we need. Expect partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 30s Sunday, and the upper 30s to low 40s on Monday as clouds build late.

Another storm system will track near the Mid-Atlantic region Monday evening. Just how much cold air will be available is uncertain at this time.

However, like last night, the concern is that it will be dry in advance of the system, such that when precip falls into the dry air, it will cool that air down enough to produce a period of snow and sleet late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, before changing to rain during the day. Rain will last into Tuesday night with another 1-2″ on the way. Behind the low, it looks windy on Wednesday.

For Wednesday through Friday expect dry, mostly sunny and cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens to 20s. At least we’ve got some decent drying with 6 out of the next 7 days predominantly void of substantial precipitation.

Have a great day and stay warm!
