Good morning everybody, we’re socked in the clouds this morning, along with a few showers spritzed about, and some drizzle and/or fog.
The cloud deck will lift a bit as the day wears on and north of the Rt. 9 corridor in WMass and CMass we should see some sunny breaks or periods, but south of there down into CT it should remain mostly cloudy.
Highs today will reach the upper 70s to low 80s with south to southwest winds gusting to 25mph at times along with occasional showers, or even a downpour.
By this evening, some stronger instability will push eastward into our western zones (eastern NY, SVT, Berkshires, etc) and this may combine with moisture well east of the cold front which will be positioned over western NY to produce some isolated downpours and strong thunderstorms this evening and early tonight.
Lows will only dip into the low to mid 60s with continued very muggy conditions and patchy fog in spots.
For Saturday morning, the cold front sweeps the region, and will push some scattered showers through WMass, but no big thunderstorm squall lines are expected. There just isn’t a lot of lift with this system, which is why we’re not seeing big rain shields form.
By noon, we should start to see skies breaking up, and allowing some sun to reach the surface during the afternoon.
Highs will reach the 70s as winds kick around to the northwest and begin to dry us out. Lows will be in the low to mid 50s and we’ll finally get a comfortable night of sleeping (I don’t know about you, but I could not sleep well last night, at all).
Sunday is gorgeous and sunny, but cool with highs in the 60s to end the month of May. Some folks in SVT may not even crack 60 degrees! Lows will be in the low to mid 40s.
As an anomalously cool upper level trough swings through the northeast U.S. early next week (sort of faint echo of our early-Spring wintry pattern), a cold pool of air will pass overhead.
While it will be partly to mostly sunny on Monday, that cold pool will destabilize the atmosphere enough to produce some scattered showers. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s, and showers will abate as the sun sets. Lows will be in the 40s.
Tuesday looks sunny with highs 65-70 with low humidity, and lows in the 40s.
Another Alberta Clippery type system will dive through the flow Wednesday with a few showers and highs in the low 70s, with more sun on Thursday and highs in the 70s again.
We’re in a pattern characterized by a dearth of rainfall, and lack of summer time heat.
Stay healthy, folks!
