Western Mass Weather for May 27, 2020

[FIRST TASTE OF SUMMER HEAT AND HUMIDITY LASTS INTO SATURDAY, THEN DRIER AND MORE SEASONABLE AIR RETURNS BY SUNDAY INTO NEXT WEEK… WE ARE NOT RUSHING INTO SUMMER FOLKS, IT’S LEGIT SPRING WEATHER…. 6:50AM WED]

Good morning everybody, did you have good dreams? Did your sister become your cat and keep talking to you about wearing your mask in the supermarket? Were you sitting in a college class you forgot to finish in your underwear? No? That was just me?

Anyway, wackadoodle dreams aside, today will be the hottest day of this stretch, and the sunniest skies until we reach about Saturday afternoon (and especially Sunday into next week).

High pressure will be positioned east of the U.S. coastline, and will consequently pump heat and moisture from the southeast U.S. into New England, as the circulation around northern hemispheric high pressure systems is clockwise.

Southwest winds will gust over 20mph at times today and highs will reach the mid 80s to low 90s with dewpoint temps in the low 60s, so it will be a bit sticky.

For tonight, expect a partly cloudy night with continued humidity and lows in the low to mid 60s.

For Thursday and Friday, clouds will be ruling the roost with a few sunny breaks possible on Thursday. A few scattered showers will be possible on Thursday with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s and lows in the mid 60s with more scattered showers expected as moisture is siphoned from south to north up the east coast, well east of a cold front that will sweep through late Friday night. Humidity will continue.

On Friday, we will see more in the way of showers, downpours and thunderstorms, with the steadiest/heaviest activity pushing into the region at night as the cold front approaches.

Highs on Friday will be in the low 80s with lows in the low to mid 60s and very humid air moving into the region ahead of the front.

By early Saturday, we could still see some lingering shower activity, but skies should start to break up in the afternoon, with highs rising into the mid to upper 70s with partly sunny skies by later in the afternoon. Lows will be down near 50 degrees as cooler, northwest flow establishes itself.

By Sunday into next week, haymaking weather is back with drier conditions, plenty of sunshine from Sunday until at least Tuesday, with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s and lows in the 40s as Canadian high pressure rules the roost.

If you love heat and summer, I would suggest you soak up today as much as possible! Be nice to each other…
