Western Mass Weather for May 26, 2020

[CLOUDS, PATCHY DRIZZLE/FOG THIS MORNING GIVES WAY TO A MOSTLY SUNNY DAY BY AFTERNOON… HEAT AND HUMIDITY BUILDS LATER TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY… ISOLATED SHOWER POSSIBLE THURSDAY LATE, BUT THE REAL THREAT FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OCCURS FRIDAY AFTERNOON INTO THE FIRST HALF OF SATURDAY, AS COLD FRONT IS SLOWER TO ARRIVE INTO NEW ENGLAND, INTERRUPTING A PART OF THE WEEKEND… SUNDAY WILL BE THE WEEKEND PICK FOR SURE, AS WE DRY OUT AND COOL DOWN… 6:55AM TUES]

Good morning everybody, after our warm front pushes through the region during the first half of today, the early summertime heat and humidity will be enveloping the region through the end of this week, though it won’t be super hot, and it won’t be oppressively humid.

It’s basically going to be Dave Hayes’ ideal summer conditions. Once the dew point goes above 65 and the air temp goes above 85, I’m not a happy guy. I’m built for Autumn and Winter thermostatically, truth be told, and so this week will just summery enough for this writer and weather nut.

For today, any patchy fog or drizzle will abate, and clouds will break, revealing increasingly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 80s, and lows in the upper 50s with a little bit of patchy fog possible again.

By Wednesday, we’ll really feel the humidity increasing under mostly sunny skies and highs reaching the low to upper 80s. Lows will only be in the low to mid 60s.

Thursday looks partly sunny to mostly cloudy at the moment, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, and an isolated shower possible Thursday evening. Lows will only be in the 60s with a slowly increasing chance of scattered showers.

By Friday, the cold front will be pushing into the eastern Great Lakes, still well west of us, but the pre-frontal trough (i.e. a zone of increasingly unstable and moist air to the east of many summer time cold fronts) will be helping to produce more numerous showers and downpours with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. A few thunderstorms can’t be ruled out, either.

Lows will fall into the 60s, with showers expected to continue into at least the first half of Saturday. We should see some sunny breaks by Saturday afternoon as highs reach the 70s with northwest flow advecting into the region. Lows will be down near 50 degrees.

Sunday and Monday look gorgeous with northerly flow, mostly sunny skies, dry conditions, and highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

Have a great day!
