UPDATE: WIND ADVISORIES HAVE EXPANDED INTO THE ENTIRE GREATER WMASS REGION FOR OVERNIGHT… SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THIS EVENING AND CULMINATE IN A FAST-MOVING SQUALL LINE THAT REACHES THE BERKSHIRES BY 8PM AND WORCESTER BY 10 OR 11PM, VALLEY BY 9ISH… A PUNCH OF STRONG WESTERLIES MAY GUST TO 50MPH OR SO FOR A TIME, WITH ISOLATED OUTAGES… WEDNESDAY STORM INCHING CLOSER NORTH, COULD GET SOME LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS SOUTH OF THE PIKE ON GRASSY SPOTS MOSTLY… 5:40pm Monday…
Good evening everybody, we have batches of showers moving through the region, and this will continue for the next few hours ahead of a thin, squall line which is pushing east-northeast toward Binghamton, NY at this hour.
The storm that this cold front is draped off of that will swing this squall line on through our region is going to develop rapidly as it tracks northeast through NY and into northern, VT, dropping 10 millibars in about 6 hours, which means it will deepening well above the rate of bombogenesis, which is a storm that deepens 24 millibars in 24 hours. 6 hours x 4 = 24 hours, and 10 millibars x 4 = a 40/millibar average.
I bring all this up to say that the pressure gradient that swings through here (low pressure along the front and rapidly rising pressure behind it) should give us westerly wind gusts of 30-50mph as this squall line comes through, along a potential for a couple of thunder rumbles, and a brief burst of heavy rain.
Lows will drop into the mid 20s to low 30s, so while wind should evaporate much of the standing water, watch for black ice spots in the early morning, and the Berkshires, western hilltowns and SVT could see some upslope snow showers after midnight as well.
The 30-50mph gusts should sit down by dawn into a 25-40mph range, and then 20-30mph as the day wears on, but it looks blustery at least during the morning, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s under sunny skies, with lows in the 20s.
Wednesday starts off with clouds increasing, and highs should reach the mid 30s to mid 40s. However, our coastal storm is now trending more northerly, and could spread rain and snow into southern parts of the WMass/CMass region and northern CT.
If it lasts long enough into the night as temps cool, we could see some light accumulations of a coating to 2″, or maybe up to 3″ in some high terrain northeast CT areas before midnight.
I will update on this tomorrow morning, but for now, be prepared for some wind overnight, and don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder.

DISCUSSION:
Good morning everybody, back by popular demand, The Bulletization Mobile(TM) has been making friends and influencing people for the better part of a decade now, and I can tell you that for me personally, TBM has made a HUGE impact on my life and ability to employ double–dashes with skill, adeptness, and nuance. I mean, who doesn’t love a list in the pre-coffee morning times? I’m a big fan. As The Cars famously crooned, LET’S GO.
SUMMARY:
–Clouds will continue to thicken as a storm system runs just west of the Appalachians, tracking northeast right through the heart of NY state and up into Canada overnight
–Temps currently in the 30s and 40s will rise with abundant southwest flow ahead of this system, and top out in the low 50s to low 60s from north to south (some areas in SVT hang in the upper 40s)
–While some gusty 20-30mph winds in CMass and northeast CT will depart to the east, lighter southerly winds are expected for much of the daylight, before increasing toward late afternoon and early evening ahead of our cold front
–Rain showers will overspread southern VT, northern Taconics into western Cheshire County NH and northwestern MA by late morning into early afternoon, while the rest of us stay mostly dry until at least mid to late afternoon
–Showers then overspread the entire WMass region by early evening, and a good 6-hour bout of showers, some heavy at times, should last until midnight or so before quitting
–Wind Advisories are hoisted for most of MA, and that is due to a cold front sweeping through before midnight, sometime between 8-11pm, which will veer winds around to the west and gust 25-50mph with the higher gusts in the higher terrain of WMass and CMass
–This should be one of those situations where you open the door and hear the wind roaring higher up
–Lows will drop into the upper 20s to mid 30s overnight as we begin to dry out
TUESDAY
–Winds slacken a bit tomorrow, but with colder high pressure moving in, it’ll still gust out of the northwest 25-35mph and with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s, there’ll be a nip to the air, despite the mostly sunny skies
–Lows will drop to the low to mid 20s overnight with wind slackening under partly cloudy skies
WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY
–Highs on Wednesday should reach the low to mid 40s with partly sunny skies, and lows will drop into the 20s with increasing cloudiness
–A storm likely stays south of us for early Thursday, but a few rain or snow showers can’t be ruled out south of the Pike early Thursday morning
–Thursday highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s with lows near freezing, and similar highs on Friday
–A large rainstorm may develop for Friday night into Saturday, so stay tuned for updates on any weekend impacts
