Good evening everybody, did anyone see any coatings of snow out there in the Berkshires, Taconics, Greens of Litchfields?
There were some nice looking snow showers today, although they looked to be fairly short-lived, and more “cellular” in appearance.
It was a beautiful day, with lots of virga (i.e snow that evaporates in mid-air, after precipitating out of the clouds), with streaky wisps hanging below the streams of cumulus clouds this afternoon.
Very pretty, indeed, and wintry!
SUMMARY
–For tonight, west winds will gust to 20mph at times
–Low temps tonight should crater into the low to middle single digits
–This combination will produce wind chills near 0 degrees and in some cases, more than 10 degrees below zero! (see attached map)
–For tomorrow, we should experience a partly sunny day
–Another disturbance will move through the flow, and kick off more scattered snow showers, especially in the western hillitowns, Berkshires, Litchfields, Taconics, Greens etc.
–Highs will be in the low 20s up high, and the upper 20s down low in the valley
–West winds will gust 20-30mph tomorrow, so another wintry and blustery day is on the way
–Snow showers should quit Thursday night, and lows will drop into the single digits for one final night
–Friday looks sweet as high pressure moves through the flow and off to the east
–Expect highs to be in the upper 20s to mid 30s from high elevations to low
–Clouds increase to our south Friday night, and there is the potential that northern CT could see some light snow as a quick Clipper low whisks west to east through the region
–A coating to an inch or so can’t be ruled out, and it could even reach as far north as the MassPike
–However, this will need to be monitored, as it may just stay to our south and away
–Lows Friday night will be in the upper teens
–Saturday is gorgeous, milder, sunny, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s!
–However, as clouds build into the region, Saturday night lows will drop into the low 20s before snow moves into WMass and surrounding counties by Sunday morning
–For Sunday, low pressure will be pushing northeast into the Great Lakes, with colder high pressure off to our east-northeast
–As I mentioned, we should all start out as a period of light accumulating snowfall
–However, as the day wears on, we should change to sleet and freezing rain as warmer air moves in aloft, while high pressure keeps cold air at the surface
–Valley areas likely lose out to milder air at all levels and change to plain rain, but I am concerned for extended icing in the high terrain
–This would be especially concerning if signals for a secondary low pressure system come to pass, with one forming along the southern New England coast
–This could keep colder air in a little longer, while lightening the showery precipitation into the evening, which could make for more efficient freezing rain/icing
–After a few more morning snow showers for Monday, we should see a partly sunny day develop with highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s
–Fair weather continues into the middle of next week with highs above freezing (mid 30s to low 40s)
I hope you have a great night, and if you feel my work is worth supporting, I would be grateful for your support tonight during my 2019 Annual Support Drive which is ending Sunday night. Thank you!

SUMMARY:
–Good morning everybody, for once in a long while, there’s not a ton to talk about weather-wise
–We’ve got a cold day ahead, and some isolated snow showers are possible in the afternoon and early evening as instability increases aloft
–This is due to temps aloft remaining pretty much the same while the surface temps increase, thereby increasing the temperature gradient
–This will create rising air and should combine with a weak disturbance and lake effect streamers to get some snow showers going
–These will weaken as the sun sets and atmosphere stabilizes. Another very cold night tonight
–Thursday will be partly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 20s, and lows in the single digits
–Friday is milder as high pressure moves east of our region, highs will reach the upper 20s to low 30s under mostly sunny skies and lows in the teens as low pressure brings light snow to the Mid-Atlantic to our south
–Saturday is much milder with many above freezing and well into the 30s for highs under mostly sunny skies
–Lows will be either side of 20 degrees as clouds increase Saturday night
–There are still many details to work out, but Sunday looks like a stormy day with a start of snow and ice, changing to rain for valley and CT folks, with a chance for extended icing in the high terrain into Sunday night
Stay tuned regarding Sunday. As we get closer, it will get dialed in better.
