DISCUSSION:
Good morning everybody, the world is a tough place a lot of times, and so we need to either work out, breathe deep, meditate, move our bodies if we can, do our face yoga, help people in some way, do something we love each day even for 10-15 minutes, and be kind to each other and ourselves whenever possible.
Ok, hands in the middle now… 1, 2, 3, GO!
As for our weather, we just had Lil’ Clippy #2 sweep the region last night, moving through about an hour faster than thought, with more of a 1-4am impact than 2-5am impact.
Regardless, we saw light accumulations and anyone that was out in it no doubt saw some lowered visibility and slippery roads.
We still have some side-road slick spots, and we could see some black ice patches form where rain fell as temps are now falling under 32º in southern MA and northern CT, so watch for that.
Aside from a few more clouds and decaying snow showers over the southern Berkshires, Taconics and northwest CT, a cold front is sweeping much colder and drier air into the region as I type, which will help produce a partly to mostly sunny day with highs in the mid 20s to mid 30s from north so south, generally speaking.
In addition, very strong high pressure will be pressing east from the northern Plains states and with our departing low strengthening as it exits east, a pressure gradient will result in northwesterly wind gusts behind the front of 20-30mph today and lasting well into the evening tonight.
Winds should slacken after midnight and with mostly clear skies expected, radiational cooling with fresh (albeit light) snow cover that remains in some spots will produce lows mostly in the single digits overnight.
For Friday, another cold sunny day is expected, but with lighter winds as high pressure pushes into the region. Highs should reach the upper 20s to low 30s with partly cloudy skies expected at night, and lows dipping into the low to mid teens.
On Saturday, our active pattern continues as yet another storm system will be tracking to our northwest by Sunday, which will put us into the warm sector of the storm.
As high pressure continues east and offshore to our south, a milder southerly flow will commence, though Saturday still looks fairly cold with highs in the mid to upper 30s.
Showers will arrive at night (the coldest part of any 24-hour period normally), and temps may drop enough down into the low 30s to produce a period of freezing rain late Saturday night into very early Sunday morning before southwest flow invigorates and pushes highs up and into the 55-60º range.
Any freezing rain will of course turn to plain rain quickly Sunday morning, with no real cold surface drain to our north or northeast to speak of.
Sunday looks showery, but not a washout at this point. We should expect a mostly cloudy day with intermittent showers, with a few showers are possible Sunday evening before ending, as lows bottom out into the upper 30s to low 40s.
Monday morning appears to be a lull in between two systems, though don’t expect much sunshine. A frontal boundary leftover from the Sunday system will have to slowly work through our region, and looks to be laid out in a more west to east orientation.
With a slow eastward propagation, this will bring more rain back into the region Monday later afternoon after highs crest well into the 40s.
Monday night into Tuesday looks to feature a second, heavier slug of rainfall, and we can’t rule out the potential for it to transform into a period of snow along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor by Tuesday morning depending on its latitude and location by that time, so please stay tuned for updates on that piece. Highs reach the 40s on Tuesday afternoon.
We should see partly sunny skies develop in Wednesday but another storm is possible by either next Thursday as well as the following weekend.
It looks milder than average next week, but colder air may be moving back into the region by mid-March with what may be winter’s last gasp, so stay tuned for updates as get closer!
