Good morning everybody, it is plenty cold outside as we enter and move through the last 24 hours of this unseasonable, wintry cold snap. There are fleeting signals of potential mixed precip through about April 10 for a couple of different storms next week into the following weekend, but all in all, Spring starting to surge with time on our side.

For today, however, we’re starting off very cold with temps in the teens to near 20º for most of us, and some upper single digits in the mountains of southern VT. Winds have gusted up to 25mph, and as such wind chills are down into the single digits when the wind is up, and even into the single digits below zero over the western highlands.

With high pressure pushing closer to our region from the west, we’ll continue with northwest wind gusts of 20-30mph or so today.

However, the high’s first influence will be to produce mostly sunny skies, which will allow temps to come up (also thanks to a high sun angle) into upper 20s to upper 30s with wind chills in the upper teens to 20s.

For tonight, winds will slacken and with very dry air in place and clear skies, we’ll see radiational cooling become maximized, resulting in lows crashing one last time into the teens. At least there won’t be any wind to contend with!

For Wednesday, the entire upper level trough responsible for this anomalous cold shot we’ve been enduring will lift northeast and away, and ridging will take its place, allowing for temps to rise into the 40s for highs with early morning sun giving way to afternoon clouds.

A warm front will move through the region overnight Wednesday, and as it does, some scattered showers will accompany it, and some may be mixed with sleet or snow but zero impact is expected, at the moment. Lows will drop into the low to mid 30s.

For Thursday, we’ll fully enter the warm sector of a storm that will be tracking well north of the WMass region, and this will pump highs into the mid 50s to low 60s. A few showers will be expected during the day on Thursday, with heavier and more numerous showers expected towards later afternoon and at night as another frontal boundary will sweep through by Friday morning. Lows will drop into the low to mid 40s.

So, Thursday night into early Friday is when we can expect the steadiest rainfall in our region, and by Friday afternoon, conditions should be improving.

In fact, hopefully we’ll be able to salvage a partly sunny afternoon on Friday behind another cold frontal passage, with highs reaching the upper 40s to mid 50s. Lows will drop into the 20s as we continue to dry out, and it may be breezy behind the front.

The weekend looks pretty decent right now with a mostly sunny, breezy, cool, but tolerable Saturday with highs in the mid 40s to low 50s and lows near 30º.

Sunday may feature a spot shower, but highs should come up into the low to mid 50s with partly to mostly sunny skies which should continue into early next week.

All in all, we’re moving in the right direction, folks! Have a great day!
