Good morning everybody, we’ve got a very chilly start out there for late March with temps in the upper teens to mid 20s – a bit milder than thought yesterday, but cold nonetheless, and it was certainly gusty overnight. Wind chills are in the single digits this morning for some of us, and even below zero in the western high terrain of MA and SVT.
Some flurries will continue in a few spots this morning, and with our upper low finally moving through the region today, we’ll see more clouds than sun develop with time, along with a few more flurries or snow showers scattered about, including this afternoon.
Highs will range from the upper teens north in SVT to upper 20s in northern CT with most of us in the low to mid 20s, which will likely set records for some sites in terms of lowest max temps recorded (max temps are synonymous with “high temps” or “highs”).
Wind chills will only be in the teens to low 20s today so as Archie Bunker might say to Edith (a/k/a “Eeeeeeeeditt”) if he were more meteorologically minded, BUNDLE!
West to northwest winds will gust 20-30mph at times, and this wind is expected to continue into tonight and tomorrow as the pressure gradient remains strengthened with incoming high pressure.
Lows tonight will drop into the teens under mostly cloudy skies with wind chills mostly in the single digits, along with some below zero wind chills in the Berkshires, western hills and SVT.
For Tuesday, it will still be cold, but not like today, with highs in the low to upper 30s under mostly sunny skies as high pressure nudges closer.
Again, west to northwest winds should gust 20-30mph, but then slacken at night, which will allow radiational cooling to take place under clear skies and with dry air in place.
This will drop temps into the teens before we turn our temperatures UP by mid week.
On Wednesday, high pressure starts tracking south of us, and turning our flow around from the south, which should push temps up into the low to mid 40s for highs.
After a mostly sunny start, clouds will build with a warm front approaching.
Depending when the precipitation band gets in here Wednesday evening will help determine whether we get a period of snow or ice overnight during the time when lows are forecast to be near freezing.
However, not much if any accumulation would be expected, as the band looks a bit anemic at the moment. Any wintry precip would turn to rain showers Thursday as we warm into the mid to upper 50s with showers at night and lows in the 40s.
Rain ends by Friday morning, and temps should still rise up into the 50s under partly sunny skies, but a cold front will come through at some point.
This will help drop temps into the 40s over the weekend, getting back above 50º on Sunday with fair weather expected at the moment.
