Western Mass Weather for June 9, 2020

[ONE MORE DRY DAY BEFORE HUMIDITY INCREASES FROM WEDNESDAY TO WEDNESNIGHT, AND ESPECIALLY THURSDAY WHEN SCATTERED SHOWERS AND DOWNPOURS ARE EXPECTED WITHIN A MUGGY AIR MASS… WARM AND DRIER FRIDAY, WITH COOLER TEMPS AND A FEW SHOWERS OVER THE WEEKEND… THERE’S A SHOT AT GENERALLY SHOWERY WEATHER EARLY NEXT WEEK, HERE’S HOPING THAT SETS UP… 7:30AM TUES]

Good morning everybody, we’re dealing with periods of clouds the farther north and east you go in the region, and more sunny breaks the farther south and west you travel.

A mid-level moisture stream continues to bring a few light showers to southwest NH, easternmost Franklin County and northern Worcester County and points east this morning, which will wane with time.

Still, expect more of a partly sunny to, at times, mostly cloudy day in CMass and southwest NH, and more partly sunny skies in much of WMass, SVT and northern CT.

Highs will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s, with mid 80s found in the sunnier valley locations of WMass and CT, and upper 70s in SVT and areas well east of I-91 where more clouds will reside.

Lows tonight will drop down into the upper 50s as a warm front starts slowly pushing northeast towards the region.

For Wednesday, we’ve got our transition day to more humid conditions.

High pressure to our east will continue to slowly drift eastward, and a more southerly and humid flow along with a warm front will begin to lift towards and into our region.

Highs on Wednesday will again range from the upper 70s to mid 80s, but it will become more humid, especially late in the day and overnight period.

A few showers, downpours, or even a thunderstorm is possible in the evening and at night as the warm front lifts through. Lows will be in the low to mid 60s and the air will become saturated with moisture.

By Thursday, we’re in the soup. Strong southerly flow ahead of a cold front that pushes through by Thursday night will help produce periods of showers and downpours with embedded thunder.

The threat for strong/severe storms will be low over the Taconics of eastern NY. While a few could spill into the Berkshires, Litchfields and southern VT, not all of the storm elements will line up, and we’re more likely to just get drenched in scattered spots with heavy rain.

Highs will range from 75-80 degrees, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s as showers abate overnight.

By Friday, the cold front will have swept to the east, and we will be left with drier conditions, mostly sunny skies, and highs low to mid 80s and lows in the 50s.

The weekend is still a bit uncertain, although it definitely looks to be cooler with highs in the low to mid 70s and lows in the 50s.

A shower is possible Saturday, though more sun than clouds is expected, and there’s a better chance for scattered showers on Sunday.

Early next week holds some promise for a more unsettled setup with an upper level low producing generalized instability (my new band name, by the way) and periods of showers.

Let’s hope we see that rainfall, as we could use it.

I hope at least one thing during your day goes your way, if not more. Take care…
