Western Mass Weather for June 25, 2020

TREND TOWARD COOLER TEMPS WITH CONTINUED MOSTLY DRY CONDITIONS, EXCEPT FOR SATURDAY WHICH MAY PRODUCE STRONG THUNDERSTORMS AND DOWNPOURS… THIS WEEKEND IS THE MUGGY CENTER OF OUR MORE PLEASANT, COOLER, AND DRIER METEOROLOGICAL SANDWICH FROM TODAY THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK… NO BIG HEAT OR RAIN IN SIGHT… (7:20AM THURS)

Good morning fine folks of the Golden West, what a night we had last night!! Oh man, so nice to feel like a human again. I get that hot and humid is party time for many a person, but not for this writer.

We start off today with fog in a few spots (Pittsfield and Orange to name a couple), but that will burn off with time. Temps are in the 50s to low 60s, and dewpoints are in the upper 40s to 50s, which is much lower humidity than the recent tear we just went on collectively.

For today, a ribbon of clouds will affect portions of northern CT, southeastern sections of WMass (mostly south of Rt. 9 and east of I-91) and into CMass. This cloud ribbon will dissipate with time, but then we’ll see fair weather cumulus clouds dot the skies later today.

Humidity will be low, and highs will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s from high terrain to low, and we can’t rule out a spot shower well northwest (like the northern Berkshires/Taconics and SVT down into western Franklin County) as a cold pool of air aloft tries to nudge close enough to destabilize the lower atmosphere enough for such activity. Winds would gust out of the southwest to 20mph at times later today.

Any showers dissipate quickly tonight, and lows will dip into the mid to upper 50s. Open those windows up and turn off the AC!

For Friday, another mostly sunny day arrives with highs in the low to mid 80s as higher pressure builds through the region with continued lower humidity. Lows will be in the upper 50s.

For Saturday, a warm front/cold front combo works through the region, and as such, will cause temps and humidity to rise. Expect a muggy day on Saturday, with dewpoint temps in the mid 60s and highs in the mid to upper 80s on southwest breezes.

A cold front will be approaching during the afternoon, so we can expect more clouds than sun by that time, and there is a chance for a decent area of showers and possibly strong thunderstorms to move into the region sometime between late morning and mid afternoon ahead of the front.

An isolated storm may become severe, but some factors should be present to inhibit widespread severe weather. Mostly, there’s a decent chance for some briefly squally storms with small hail.

Highs will reach the mid 70s to low 80s, with lows in the low to mid 60s, with dewpoints in the 60s as previously mentioned.

Sunday looks a bit drier under partly sunny skies, but a few showers are still possible with highs well into the 80s with lows near 60.

Monday through Wednesday of next week looks drier, cooler, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s as an upper level trough swings west to east to our north, and induces a northwesterly flow into the region for a bit.

A few instability showers thanks to its associated cold pool will be possible Tuesday and Wednesday.

Otherwise, a very seasonable summer continues in southern New England.

Remember to raise your eyebrows if you meet with distress today. Take care of your inner worlds as best you can, as resilience is required these days.

Be well, Dave
