Western Mass Weather for June 23, 2021

SUMMER IS READY TO BLOOM, BUT BEFORE THAT WE GET ONE LAST CANADIAN REPRIEVE OF CALMNESS, PEACEFULNESS, DRYNESS, COOLNESS, CRISPNESS, AND LOVELINESS TODAY AND TOMORROW… FRIDAY AND SATURDAY REPRESENT THE RAMP-UP TRANSITION, THEN SUNDAY INTO NEXT WEEKEND IS MID 80S TO LOW 90S, HOT, HUMID, AND POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED/SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EACH DAY… SUMMAHTIME… 6:40AM WEDNESDAY…

Good morning everybody, well, we made it to The Crispening and with dewpoint temps now in the 50s and 40s, scheduled to drop further into the 40s and 30s by this afternoon (see attached chart), I can safely say that this afternoon, evening and overnight period will be the crispiest for a good while as Summer is set to engage in abundant proliferation behaviors from Saturday into the following weekend at least!

Speaking of Summah, let’s dive into the new season’s first Summah-ry replete with double–dashes for your scanning pleasure.

SUMMAH-RY
–It’ll be sunny and nice, the end
–I kid! I kid!
–High pressure centered over the Midwest will slowly slide east today, spreading light northwesterly flow containing low moisture air and abundant sunshine
–A few fair weather clouds may develop in the afternoon, and highs will reach the upper 60s to mid 70s from high terrain to low, with a few upper 70s possible near Springfield, south & east
–For tonight, temps drop into the 45-50º range under mostly clear skies
–Thursday is another winner, with dry air for one more crisp summer day. Highs will rise into the mid 70s to low 80s with lows near 50º
–By Friday, a wave of weak low pressure will be bobbing north from the western Atlantic towards New England
–We should still be mostly sunny on average, but a few showers may creep in here, especially east of the I-91 corridor in CMass and northeast CT
–Highs will get up into the upper 70s to low 80s, and humidity will start to creep up. Lows will only settle around 60º
–For Saturday, high pressure starts flexing its clockwise flow over the western Atlantic, and will combine with a Great Lakes upper level trough flexing its counterclockwise flow
–These two will form a quasi-fixed atmospheric setup as their combined circulations pinwheel southwesterly warm/hot and humid flow into New England from this coming weekend to the following weekend
–Saturday will see highs rise well into the 80s under partly sunny skies with southerly winds gusting over 20mph at times (these breezy conditions will continue on Sunday, too)
–It will be increasingly humid on Saturday, and Saturday night lows will only drop into the upper 60s as Summah seeps back in
–By Summerday, I mean Sunday, we’re locked in to the heat and humidity for the foreseeable future, so summah lovahs may rejoice with resounding Yahoos! while summer detesters will need to gear up for an extended human soup-making session
–Highs from Sunday through next week will generally be in the mid 80s to low 90s, with some seeing a heatwave, especially in the southern Pioneer Valley from about Holyoke/Chicopee south to Hartford.
–Lows from Saturday night onward are in the 65-70º range, muggy
–With our upper level trough to our northwest, it will be close enough to allow mid-level temps to be cool enough to combine with daily surface heating which will produce isolated to scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms each afternoon/early evening
–Occasionally, some of these storms could flex on different days and become strong with either gusty winds over 40mph or small hail, but generally these will produce heavy rain in spots, and remain sub-severe

Anyway, that’s our regional weather news into next weekend, get ready for more summer weather, but enjoy The Freshening today and tomorrow!

Have a great day!
