Western Mass Weather for June 11, 2020

[TWO ROUNDS OF SHOWERS AND STORMS TODAY, ONE EARLY TO MID MORNING, THE SECOND BY EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON AS A FRONTAL BOUNDARY MOVES THROUGH… TORRENTIAL RAIN IS THE MAIN THREAT, THOUGH ISOLATED STRONG GUSTY WINDS POSSIBLE TOO… HUMID AND CLOUDY… TOMORROW IS VERY WARM AND DRY AND SATURDAY LOOKS NICE FOR THE MOST PART… SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY IS COOLER THAN AVERAGE WITH PERSISTENT EASTERLY TO SOUTHEASTERLY FLOW KEEPING COOLER TEMPS, CLOUDIER SKIES, AND SHOWERS AT TIMES IN THE WMASS/CMASS REGION… 7:35AM THURS]

Good morning everybody, some of us had some thunder rumbles overnight, and we’ve got more showers and storms with which to contend early this morning.

This round will produce showers and downpours, the heaviest of which will be concentrated mainly both west of I-91 and north of the Rt. 9 corridor in WMass, though some scattered showers will be seen across the entire region. A few thunderstorms are also possible, and some may produce winds gusting to 40mph (best chance for that is the northern Berkshires/Taconics into southern VT).

We will get a lull behind this activity, but it will remain humid as we will still be east of the frontal boundary that passes through this afternoon.

Highs today will only reach the mid to upper 70s. We will also have another round of showers and storms to deal with by around noon/early afternoon into the mid afternoon as the frontal boundary approaches.

Some storms may be on the strong side, but with plenty of cloud cover and not the best instability, most of these should be torrential rainers if anything.

All of this activity should wind down this evening, with partly cloudy skies developing late and lows dropping into the mid to upper 50s.

For Friday, it’s gorgeous, and warm! Highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s under mostly sunny skies as high pressure noses in for the day.

Lows will drop into the low to mid 50s, fostering comfortable sleeping conditions.

Saturday looks partly to mostly sunny with a shower possible and highs in the low to mid 70s, with lows in the low 50s.

The Sunday to Wednesday period is murky in terms of details, but generally it appears that Atlantic Canadian high pressure, and a mid level low that extends into the central Appalachians will turn the flow out of the southeast or east, and as such, pull cooler temps into the region off of the ocean waters, along with clouds and occasional showery periods.

It won’t be cold or anything, but highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s could rule for a while, before this blocked flow becomes unstuck, and we warm towards later next week.

I hope things go well for you today, and I will pop on here if any storms or downpours look particularly potent.
