Good morning everybody, we’re starting off with clouds and fog in a few spots, and dew point temps have come up, now in the 60s, and expected to crest 70 degrees today, tomorrow, and forever (I’m kidding, sorta). The cloud deck should break up into a partly sunny sky, which will help heat the surface and set us up for showers and storms later today.

In fact, we already have some showers forming in central NY out near the Finger Lakes Region, and those are racing east.

While we could see some showers or even a thunderstorm by early afternoon, the highest potential for strong to severe storms is by mid afternoon through the evening, earliest to the northwest, latest to the southeast.

The main threat with these storms will be isolated straight line damaging wind gusts and torrential rain, given how much moisture will be present in the lower atmosphere.

Highs today will reach the low to mid 80s with lows in the mid to upper 60s as very muggy air settles into the region.

For Thursday, a hot and humid day is on the way. Highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s with dew point temps in the upper 60s to low 70s under mostly sunny skies. Typical isolated to scattered afternoon/evening pop-up showers, downpours and thunderstorms will be possible. Lows will dip into the mid to upper 60s with patchy fog late.

Friday and Saturday is a period to watch, as a tropical system moving off the Carolina coast and then drawn northward up the eastern seaboard may in fact become classified as a Tropical Depression, and could become a named Tropical Storm.

What this means for us in the WMass region is the potential for heavy and/or flooding rains, on the order of 2-4″ possible. The rain will start sometime Friday afternoon or evening, and then least into part of Saturday with heavy downpours, embedded thunderstorms, and super humid air. I don’t see much of a wind threat for our region (maybe more so for points east of us), but I will keep you updated.

At least Friday will be cooler with more clouds in place, and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s with lows in the 60s.

Showers will continue on Saturday, hopefully lessening by afternoon, but there’s a chance for rain into Saturday evening. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s with lows in the 60s Saturday night in our wicked muggy air mass.

Sunday also looks unsettled, with scattered showers and thunderstorms and highs in the low to mid 80s and lows in the 60s.

Would you like more showers and thunderstorms?

Well, you’re in luck, because I think we’ll see some more afternoon poppers into early next week as well with highs in the low to mid 80s and very humid conditions with dewpoints either side of 70 degrees.

By this time next week, they’ll call me Sadface McGee, and with the way my pandemic hair style is going, possibly Bozo The Clown as a nickname.

The party never stops over here!

Check in with me later re: thunderstorms… live long and prosper…
