TODAY WILL BE THE PICK OF THE WEEK… STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TUESDAY LATER AFTERNOON INTO EARLY EVENING AS HEAT AND HUMIDITY RETURN FOR 2 DAYS… WEDNESDAY WILL SEE SOME AFTERNOON SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS AS WELL BEFORE A COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH OVERNIGHT AND HELPS TO FOCUS MORE RAINFALL OVER OUR REGION THURSDAY… TROPICAL STORM ELSA MAKES ITS CLOSEST PASS FRIDAY WHICH MAY ENHANCE SHOWER ACTIVITY EAST OF THE I-91 CORRIDOR… THE WEEKEND IS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD WITH MORE SUNSHINE, SEASONABLE TEMPS, AND A FEW ISOLATED AFTERNOON POP-UP SHOWERS… 7AM MONDAY…
Good morning everybody, may all manner of goodnesses somehow find their way into your life today. Remember to savor the simplest things, like a hot shower, a cool bath, a nice conversation, a work accomplishment – savoring the little things can really add up.
As for our weather, today is the work-week pick for sure. We have some patchy fog in spots, especially over the Berkshires to start the day, but that will burn off with time.
We have high pressure nosing in from the southwest which will push some drier air into the region, allowing for partly sunny skies on average today along with highs in the mid to upper 70s with a light south wind.
A warm front will press into the region tonight, and with it a few showers or even a thunderstorm should visit upon some of us overnight and into early Tuesday morning. Lows will hang in the mid 60s as we warm, and humidity will be increasing into Tuesday as well.
Hot and humid summah weathah returns for a couple of days starting Tuesday, as a ridge to our south starts work with another upper trough over the Great Lakes to produce southwesterly flow which begets heat and humidity in our region, and we could even see some southwest gusts to 25mph possible during the day.
Expect another partly sunny day with highs soaring into the mid 80s to low 90s with dewpoints rising into the upper 60s to low 70s as high humidity resumes.
At the same time, some energy will be tracking southeast into the region, and with ample moisture, a moderate amount of instability, and strong low AND mid level lapse rates (which causes air to be buoyant and rise, producing organized condensation, clouds, showers and storms) we could see some clusters of strong to severe thunderstorms between 3-7pm across the region (see attached map for possible radar depiction Tuesday afternoon).
Isolated damaging wind gusts are possible, as is hail, and torrential rain.
This activity will dissipate at night, and lows will only bottom out into the mid to upper 60s.
On Wednesday, one more hot day arrives, with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s and even more humid than Tuesday! A Heat Advisory may be hoisted for some select parts of our region.
Afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms will also be possible, but hopefully not as robust as the potential for Tuesday afternoon. This will be due to a cold front approaching the region.
Lows Wednesday night will be in the mid to upper 60s.
For Thursday, we have our rainiest day of the week, as the cold front stalls south of us, and focuses ribbons of showers and rainfall across the region, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. This showery weather continues into Thursday night with lows in the low to mid 60s.
Friday looks unsettled as well with similar highs to Thursday, and we’ll have to watch to see how Elsa tracks and what rainy impacts could occur as a result (wind will not be an issue for us).
The weekend is looking nice with seasonable highs either side of 80º with partly sunny skies and a pop-up shower possible each day.
Have a great day, folks!
