Western Mass Weather for July 3, 2020

[CLOUDS INCREASE TODAY WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS BY LATE MORNING THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, SOME STREET FLOODING IS POSSIBLE… 4TH OF JULY LOOKS AWESOME, MOSTLY DRY… WARMER AND MORE HUMID AIR MOVES BACK IN SUNDAY… NEXT WEEK IS LOOKING HOT AND HUMID WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EACH AFTERNOON/EVENING FROM TUESDAY THROUGH THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND… FULL-BLOWN SUMMAH WEATHER IS ON THE WAY, FOLKS, GEAR UP… 7:38AM FRIDAY]

Good morning everybody, our sunshine is fleeting today, thanks to a system diving southeast out of NY state, and a backdoor cold front diving southwest out of the great state of Maine. The two will collide overhead in WMass, SVT, SWNH, and northern CT today, resulting in showers and thunderstorms starting late morning, and lasting through the afternoon.

SUMMAH-RY
–Temps in the 60s and 70s and dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s start us off on a warm and humid note
–Today will be the coolest of the next 10, probably, given cloud cover, and northeasterly flow later in the day tamping down temps
–Highs will reach the mid to upper 70s, maybe some low 80s in spots if some sunny breaks can hold on deeper into the day
–Scattered showers and thunderstorms will form by late morning and then grow in coverage as they track northwest to southeast into the WMass region as moisture and energy collides with an incoming stable air mass spreading southwest through EMass and Worcester County toward WMass
–Some storms may become strong, and there is a chance for street or small stream flooding later today, as some of these downpours and storms may “train” over the Berkshires and western hilltowns, which could get dumped on today
–The cold front moves through tonight, and puts an end to the rain by midnight, after which patchy fog is likely with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s
–For the 4th on Saturday, we’re golden under the influence of a drying northwest flow
–Early morning patchy fog burns off, and reveals a mostly sunny day with highs in the low 80s, lower humidity, and only the chance of a spot shower in the high terrain in the afternoon
–All outdoor activities are most definitely a go!
–Lows will again drop into the upper 50s to low 60s, with patchy fog developing late
–By Sunday, the flow turns southwest, and we warm well into the 80s to near 90 degrees in spots under mostly sunny skies, with a spot shower or storm possible in the afternoon
–Lows will drop into the low to mid 60s under partly cloudy skies
–By Monday, Summer makes a deeper push into New England through the next weekend
–There will be a chance for scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms every single day from Monday through at least Saturday, with hot and humid conditions
–Monday and Tuesday will feature highs in the mid to upper 80s with lows in the low to mid 60s Monday night and mid to upper 60s Tuesday night
–Wednesday and Thursday will feature highs in the upper 80s to low/mid 90s, with lows in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees
–This heat and humidity looks to continue next Friday and Saturday before a strong cold front crosses the region sometime around next Sunday
–Strong to severe storms are most possible Wednesday and Thursday, and again on the following Sunday when the front crosses the region
–The instability pattern next week will be thanks to a ridge pushing the jet stream north of us, and said jet stream running west to east (i.e. a zonal pattern), bringing impulses and disturbances through New England in rapid fashion

I have held off putting the AC in, but now I must cry uncle, it’s going in tomorrow.

May The Force be with you today, and may your gardens and farm fields get the drink they need, assuming they need one.

I will update later as conditions warrant…. have a good day
