EVENING UPDATE: PATCHY DENSE FOG IN NW.CT TONIGHT… WATCH FOR BLACK ICE IN SPOTS OVERNIGHT DUE TO REFREEZING OF STANDING WATER FROM TODAY’S RAIN… AFTER A FEW SNOW SHOWERS IN SVT/NORTHERN BERKSHIRES TONIGHT, THURSDAY IS PLEASANT, AND THEN A LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL ARRIVES BY FRIDAY MORNING TO IMPACT MORNING COMMUTE… 6:55pm Wed
Good evening everybody, I hope everyone has recovered from the slippery mess of this morning, which was obviously harrowing for some.
As for tonight, we have some fog that has formed in northwest CT and the southern Taconics, and this may be an issue in a few other spots, so watch the visibility if you head out and you notice the ground clouds present.
Lows are going to drop into the mid to upper 20s, so if fog persists, we could have some freezing fog issues, along with black ice on tertiary roads and/or driveways, walkways, etc. that may still be wet from earlier rainfall.
In addition, a few snow showers are possible overnight, mainly in our northwest zones such as the northern Berkshires and SVT.
For tomorrow, we’re in good shape, the calm before the storm! Expect partly to mostly sunny skies (a few more clouds over the high terrain, such as the Berkshires and western hilltowns) with highs in the low to mid 30s and a fairly light west wind expected.
Clouds build tomorrow night, and our storm ejects northeast out of the mid-Appalachians destined to track south of New England, keeping us on the cold side of the storm.
There will be enough cold air in place to make this an all-snow event in the WMass region, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.
But I’m still cautious about how much snow we’re going to see due to not seeing a strong high centered north of northern New England to “pair up” with it and help develop the storm quickly.
Still, it will have some more moisture with it given it’s southern dip toward the Gulf of Mexico and will be picking up additional moisture from the western Atlantic as it tracks south of Nantucket.
Snow should arrive after midnight during the pre-dawn hours of Friday morning, and be out of here by noon – it’s a progressive, fast-mover.
I still feel a general 1-4″ for much of the WMass region up into SVT and SWNH and down into the northwestern half of CT should do it. If the storm somehow amps up or tucks/tracks closer, you could add an inch to that range. Lower half of that range north and west, upper half of that range south and east.
As for Worcester County and northeast CT, including eastern Hampden County up into towns like Belchertown, Ware and Pelham in eastern Hampshire County we should see more like 3-6″ in those areas.
The main impact with this storm will be the timing of its peak, which is right at commute time, which is also when temps are coldest, so plan to give yourself extra time to travel.
Have a great night and I will post a full update tomorrow morning about our upcoming snowfall!

WEATHER BULLETIN:
–Good morning folks, we’ve got some showers of freezing rain and freezing drizzle moving into parts of WMass and northern CT this morning
–These should generally fall east of the Berkshires and south of Rt. 2, but a few may sneak into those areas
–Road were fine very early morning, but that should change for some with some light icing moving through, with any icing changing to plain rain by late morning moving into the noon hour
–A storm through the Great Lakes (counterclockwise flow) and high pressure south of us (clockwise flow) combine to run southerly and southwesterly flow into the WMass region today, bringing these showers and creating highs into the low 40s
–For tonight, southwest winds may gust to 20mph or so before a cold front moves through with a few snow showers possible in NW.MA and S.VT, and lows dropping into the mid to upper 20s
–We dry out tomorrow, and enjoy a partly sunny day between systems, with highs climbing into the low to mid 30s with partly to mostly sunny skies and west winds gusting to 25mph
–Clouds build Thursday evening, and lows will settle down into the low to mid 20s as we become overcast
–Our next storm system will track northeast out of the mid-Appalachians and exit the DelMarVa Peninsula or southern NJ and likely tracks about 100 miles south of Nantucket
–There are still uncertainties about the strength of the storm and how fast it develops, but as of now, it looks like a light to moderate snowfall, which I’ve been alluding to in past days
–Snow will begin around or after midnight and it will be snowing when we wake up Friday morning just about everywhere
–The snow will fall light to moderately at times and last into early afternoon before quitting and exiting east
–Amounts at this early range look to be about 1-4″ for much of WMass, SVT, SWNH and northwest CT (including Litchfield and Hartford Counties)
–For CMass, eastern Hampden County and northeast CT we could see more like 2-5″ or 3-6″, and I will refine that as we get closer
–Highs Friday will reach the upper 20s to low 30s with lows in the teens
–A cold front sweeps the region behind the storm, and Saturday is sunny but cold with highs in the 25-30º range, and lows in the mid to upper teens
–Sunday will see another warm front/cold front combo as a warm sector tries to wedge in here for a minute
–This means more snow showers are expected in the morning, changing to ice then rain showers by afternoon, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s
–By Monday and Tuesday, the Tundra arrives, as a true Arctic blast rips southeast into New England with highs by Tuesday only in the teens, and lows below zero in many places with brutally cold wind chills that may be advisory-worthy
Stay tuned for updates and details and have a great day!
Have a great day!
