Western Mass Weather for January 31, 2019

WIND CHILL WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES EXPIRE AT 9AM THIS MORNING… WIND CHILLS WILL BE BELOW ZERO TODAY AS COLD SHOT SITS ON US TODAY AND TONIGHT… WE MODERATE FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND THROUGH MUCH OF NEXT WEEK… IF YOU LOVE WINTER, SOAK IT UP TODAY AND TOMORROW BEFORE THE MELTING MACHINE MANIFESTS MIGHTILY #BadAlliterator (6:30am Thurs)

Good morning everybody, bundle up today! Lots of two-hour delays for schools, as lows bottomed out below zero for many.

Highs will range from the single digits in SVT, the Berkshires and other high terrain regions, and the teens in the valley and down into CT. Winds will gust over 20mph at times out of the west, keeping wind chills below zero.

As high pressure builds in from the west tonight, winds will die down, but that will foster radiational cooling, dropping temps about 5 degrees either side of the 0 degree mark (-5 to 5 above).

Friday through Sunday should be generally fair with highs building from the low 20s Friday, through the low 30s Saturday, and well into the 30s Sunday with partly to mostly sunny skies. Some snow or rain showers are possible late Sunday

Next week is mild, as Pacific air invades the region again, with a southwest to northeast flow across the country. Highs will crest into the 40s and even 50s with rain showers at times. I will fine tune things as we get closer. Cold air should return by the following weekend.

Have a great day, and thanks for all the reports yesterday, quite a wild day!!
