Good boring, I mean good morning to you, fine folks of the region within and surrounding western Massachusetts.
At least boring is peaceful, and peaceful is good. Aside from a very low chance of a storm impact this weekend, things are quiet in the weather department at the moment.
Cold air locked up in Canada due to a tight Arctic circulation… fast, flat, progressive flow in the jet stream (it’s traveling mostly west to east and quickly, so storms can’t form in the undulations and dips), and a longer wavelength between storms (now about 5-6 days between each) have combined to ensure a quiet end to the month of January, which has been much milder than average.
There are some colder signals for February, but not an overabundance of them, so we will see how our normally snowiest month in Winter shakes out this season.
Before I fall asleep, let’s jump into the dailies, quick!
SUMMARYZZZZZZZ
–Clouds continue to depart to the south, and mostly sunny skies are the result today with highs in the low to mid 30s with a light northwest wind
–With clear, calm and dry conditions tonight, and high pressure tracking southeast toward New England, we will maximize radiational cooling and see a VERY cold night develop, with lows in the single digits by tomorrow morning
–For Thursday, mostly sunny again as high pressure crests through the region. Highs will make it into the low 30s or so, with lows in the teens
–For Friday, pick of the week! Highs will reach the 35-40 degree range with mostly sunny skies as high pressure positions southeast of us (not ideal if you want snow the next day). Lows will be in the 20s
–Our storm will likely be tracking south and east of us, headed for Nova Scotia to blast them snow, rain and wind
–Expect mostly cloudy day, with highs in the 35-40 degree range again
–PLEASE NOTE: we really won’t have a more clear idea on this system’s impact, if any, until tomorrow, so some changes are still possible, including a light to moderate impact here, but I think that’s the outlier
–Lows will be in the 20s Saturday night
–Winds will gust out of the northwest Sunday as cooler air works into the region, but highs should still crest 35-40 before dropping late in the day
–Early next week looks fair with a potential light impact system by Tuesday
–Next real storm signal is late next week but that’s 9 days away, so we just watch for now
Have a great day!
