Western Mass Weather for January 24, 2019

BLACK ICE BY TOMORROW MORNING, THEN WE GO BACK INTO THE FREEZER TOMORROW NIGHT… A FEW SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE TONIGHT… (8:40pm Thursday)

Good evening folks, I’m hoping you’ll share this update so the most people possible can be aware of the expected black ice problem by tomorrow morning.

Winds are dying down, which is going to reduce drying capacity. At the same time, lows will drop into the low 20s over the high terrain, and mid 20s in the valley.

Standing water will freeze overnight, especially in the high terrain which has been having travel problems recently, including last night.

Aside from some isolated snow showers tomorrow, we should enjoy partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 20s over the high terrain, and low 30s in the valley. That means some places will stay below freezing tomorrow.

Then, tomorrow night, lows will drop into the single digits region-wide. If you have any slush piles, you might want to remove them this evening before you go to bed.

Saturday looks nice, but cold with highs in the teens in the high terrain and 20s in the valley.

Sunday could see a few snow showers with temps rising into the 30s.

By early next week, there is a chance of a snow storm, or a snow to rain situation, followed by brutally cold Arctic air late week, once again.

I will update you tomorrow morning with a more clear picture through the end of next week, but that’s the broadbrush painterly look.

Have a great night, and be careful on the roads!

FLASH FLOOD WATCHES CONTINUE REGION-WIDE… PATCHY FOG EXPECTED…A MILD AND RAINY DAY FROM START TO FINISH WITH SOUTHERLY WIND GUSTS OVER 30MPH AROUND AND AFTER NOON, ESPECIALLY EAST OF I-91 AND SOUTH OF RT. 9 INTO CMASS AND NORTHEAST CT… THUNDER POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON… BRIEF CHANGE TO SNOW IN SVT AND BERKSHIRES AROUND OR AFTER SUNSET BEFORE PRECIP QUITS…. (7:25am Thursday)

Good morning folks, I’m noting that the Newfane area of SVT still is near or below freezing, so I imagine there are sections of SVT that are very icy this morning, while the rest of us have warmed way up into the 40s and low 50s, which is roughly where our highs should land today. A few of us may reach the mid 50s – a dramatic rise in temperature since Monday to say the least.

Same story as I’ve been saying: 1-2″ of rainfall, southerly wind gusts this afternoon, thunder possible, wind shift thisi evening bringing gusts to 30mph out of the west and northwest as we cool down into the low 20s tonight.

BLACK ICE ALERT
Again, everything is going to refreeze by tomorrow morning, so expect black ice problems tomorrow morning and prepare accordingly.

Friday through Saturday look colder and fair, and Sunday through Wednesday still holds the chance for wintry weather.

I will dial it all in more for you this evening. I hope you have a great day, and watch out for street flooding…
