Western Mass Weather for January 2, 2019

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES POSTED FOR BENNINGTON COUNTY AND THE HIGH TERRAIN OF WESTERN/CENTRAL WINDHAM COUNTY IN SVT… BEST CHANCE FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW ALONG AND NORTH OF RT. 2 CORRIDOR TOMORROW MORNING… (4:55pm Wed)

Good evening everybody, just a quick update regarding our wintry system tomorrow morning.

–An Alberta Clipper will track through northern New England tomorrow morning
–At the same time, a southern stream system will track through the Mid-Atlantic
–It’s possible that areas of CT and WMass/CMass south of Rt. 2 will see lighter precipitation, due to being in the subsident (i.e. sinking/drying) air between the northern and southern systems
–With temps below freezing, this may cause a freezing drizzle threat tomorrow morning during the morning commute, along with some light snow at times
–A coating of snow is possible south of Rt. 2 in WMass and CMass down into northern CT
–However, the way it looks now, the best chance for 1-4″ of snow is along and north of Rt. 2, especially in SVT where Winter Weather Advisories are posted
–The higher the elevation, the more snow you are likely to see tomorrow
–That means some pockets of an inch or two are possible in the high terrain of eastern Franklin County into northern Worcester County and into southwest NH
–Other areas of CT and as far north as the MassPike should change to plain rain as the morning wears on, and all precip is out of here by about 10am
–The only exception is that snow showers may persist in parts of the Berkshires or SVT through tomorrow evening

I will update you early tomorrow morning.

Whether it’s light snow or freezing drizzle, it won’t take much to cause slippery driving conditions during the morning commute, so travel safely, and I will be on the case in the morning.

Have a great night!

LIGHT SNOW FOR MORNING COMMUTE TOMORROW… ANOTHER RAINSTORM FOR SATURDAY MAY START AS SNOW/ICE EARLY ON SAT AM… SNOWSTORM POSSIBLE FOR NEXT TUESDAY… 2019 GETS DOWN TO BUSINESS… (7:45am Wed)

Good morning everybody, I hope everyone has recovered from the holidays, and feeling well to start the new year. We’re starting off quite cold this morning with most of us in the teens to mid 20s.

We’ve got at least three storm systems to discuss in terms of impacts over the next 7 days, so I will double-dash them out below. #ListHumor #NotFunnyReally

–We start off with mostly sunny conditions today, with clouds starting to build late in the day and overnight
–Highs will reach the low to mid 30s, with lows in the low to mid 20s
–A quick moving and energized little storm system will dive southeast out of the Great Lakes and through New England tomorrow morning bringing snow
–Light to moderate snow will break out across the region after midnight and before sunrise tomorrow morning
–With cold ground temps, snow is expected to stick rather quickly, and cause some slippery travel for the Thursday morning commute
–Generally speaking we can expect a coating to 2″ or so, especially north of the MassPike.
–Some coatings to MAYBE an inch south of the Pike, but less is expected there because temps will be warming from south to north as the system tracks east
–In other words, some parts of northern CT could see snow changing to rain, and that may extend up into southern portions of Hampden County before precip quits by 9am or 10am tomorrow morning
–We should see sunshine break out on Thursday afternoon with high temps either side of 40 degrees, and possibly just the mid 30s where 1-3″ accumulated north of Rt. 2 corridor up into SVT/SWNH
–Thursday night lows will be in the 20s
–High pressure builds back through the region on Friday with sunshine and highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s, with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s
–For Saturday morning a storm system is going to be racing northeast towards our region, and likely pass just west of us
–However, enough antecedent cold air may be in place, along with colder air aloft to generate a period of freezing rain or sleet Saturday morning
–We are expected to change to all rain after any icing, and so another raw rainy day is on the way to start the weekend with highs near 40
–Sunday and Monday look sunny and increasingly colder in advance of what could be a decent snowstorm for Tuesday into Wednesday
–More on that as we get closer

Have a great day!
