Western Mass Weather for January 19, 2022 (Updated 6:30pm)

UPDATE: TOMORROW MORNING’S SNOW IS LOOKING A BIT ANEMIC UNLESS YOUR IN SOUTHERN CT, RI AND SOUTHEAST MA… LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS STILL EXPECTED SOUTH OF THE PIKE, MOSTLY IN NORTHERN CT, BUT THE TREND LOOKS DRIER AND MORE SUPPRESSED TO THE SOUTH… SATURDAY SNOW IS NOT HAPPENING… 6:30pm Wed…

Good evening everybody, I hope you all had a great day today. I wanted to touch base about tomorrow morning’s little flat-tracking wave which will bring some snow showers to the southern parts of the greater WMass region, and could provide some slick spots.

While the timing of this wave is sub-optimal with snow arriving during the morning commute, from what I’m seeing, we have drier air already in place through midnight, and we’ll have much drier and colder air working in from the northwest behind the cold front.

Many times I see these just-in-time setups that dry out on the northwest side of the snow shield, and it appears that will happen again.

Now, that doesn’t mean that we won’t see any snow showers or any light accumulations along and south of the Pike, but I think it’s more like a coating to 1″ along and south of the Pike, up to 2″ in the southern halves of the 4 counties in northern CT.

North of the Pike could see some coatings here and there, but a lot of areas should end up with no accumulation with some light snow showers passing through mostly between 4-10am.

Lows tonight will dip into the low to upper 20s, and highs tomorrow will reach towards 30º before crashing down into the single digits above and below zero Thursday night as cold air advection fully overspreads the region.

Friday is cold and sunny with highs in the teens, and again below zero Friday night under clear skies.

The weekend storm is headed out to sea to our south, so the weekend looks fair, sunny and cold.

We’ve got the cold, but we don’t have the storm tracks so far this winter, and for snow lovers we’ll need to get some storms going over the region over the next 2 weeks or so, as the pattern is starting to signal moving back to milder ranges.

Have a great night!

7:30AM-WED: SOME SNOW SHOWERS THIS MORNING, THEN WINDY AND MILDER AS THE DAY WEARS ON WITH SUNNY BREAKS BY AFTERNOON… COLD FRONT APPROACHES OVERNIGHT WITH SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS IN WMASS, AND A COATING TO 2″ ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE MASSPIKE DOWN INTO NORTHERN CT BY NOON TOMORROW… AM COMMUTE MAY BE IMPACTED FOR SOME… MUCH COLDER AIR THURSDAY INTO SATURDAY WITH LIKELY A MISS FROM A COASTAL STORM TO OUR SOUTH… COLD STRETCH COMING UP…

Good morning folks, we’ve got a few snow showers around today as a warm front passes through, and then we’ll have some snow showers or periods of light to moderate snow tomorrow morning as a cold front passes through. I’ll detail things for your below, but first I’ve got a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with a new location in West Springfield, MA.

SYNOPSIS:
–Good day to you, I hope things go your way and that a pep in your step precedes this hopeful streak of good luck
–As for our weather, we’ve got clouds around this morning as a warm front is approaching the region, draped southward off of a Canadian low pressure system that will track east and skirt the Canadian/U.S. border this morn
–Some snow showers, mostly in the northern half of the WMass region up into SVT/SWNH will float through
–Temps in the teens are going to soar into the mid 30s to low 40s, and with a present pressure gradient between the low to our northwest and high to our southeast, southerly and southerly winds will gust 25-35mph by afternoon
–Clouds will give way to at least some sunny breaks if not partial sunshine by afternoon
–For tonight, the associated cold frontal boundary will be laying out more northeast to southwest in orientation, while a disturbance plays catch-up and rides along it into Thursday morning
–This will set the stage for some snow showers mostly along and south of the Rt. 2 corridor, with a steadier band of light to moderate snow forming somewhere along and south of the MassPike
–Some coatings are possible in southern parts of WMass and CMass, maybe an inch for some, but a band of 1-2″ will likely set up somewhere in northern CT, lasting into the noon hour or so
–These setups are a bit tricky, in that much drier/colder air on the northwest flank of these frontal waves can “eat” away at the snow shield and dry it right up, producing a bust (not that this is some major system, or anything like that)
–Bottom line is that the morning commute will be impacted at least in northern CT (especially Hartford up to Worcester MA) with some ill-timed steady light/moderate snow
–Highs tomorrow will be realized in the morning
–Once the cold front makes it through by afternoon, sunshine develops and temps will plummet down into the single digits above and below zero! Frigid
–Friday is cold and sunny with highs in the upper singles to upper teens from north to south, and lows will be the same as Thursday night
–For now, assuming that Saturday’s coastal storm stays shunted south by incoming high pressure, it looks like a sunny day with highs in the low to mid 20s and lows in the single digits
–I will continue to monitor the Saturday system, but for now, it looks like a miss
–Sunday through Tuesday looks fair and cold as well, with plenty of sunshine, and some possible snow by next Wednesday

Have a great day, and I hope things go your way today!
