Western Mass Weather for January 11, 2019

THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS LOOKS COLD AND FAIR WITH PLENTY OF SUNSHINE… NO STORMS IN SIGHT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND WHILE SUNDAY’S STORM SNOWS ON THE MID-ATLANTIC AND THE FISH IN THE WESTERN ATLANTIC OCEAN… (6:30am Fri)

Good morning folks, we’ve got some winter cold to contend with for the foreseeable future. We might try to push toward 40 degrees by the middle of next week but other than that, we’re getting quite cold through the weekend with highs in the 20s. Then after we rise into the mid 30s or so by Tuesday and Wednesday, we should be cooling down again late next week into next weekend, when a snowstorm is being signaled by some model guidance.

SUMMARY
–For today, under mostly sunny skies we’ll have northwest winds that will gust to 30mph at times as high pressure beings to approach
–Highs will be in the teens in the high terrain with low 20s in the valley. Wind chill readings will drop into the single digits Below zero at times, especially this morning (see attached map)
–Lows Friday night will be in the single digits under mostly clear skies
–Both weekend days will be fairly identical with highs in the low to mid 20s and lows in the single digits under mostly sunny skies
–Saturday night will be partly to mostly cloudy as the storm passes to our south, and so Sunday morning may start off with less sunshine than we finish with
–Monday through Wednesday looks mostly sunny as well as high pressure just dominates our sensible weather
–Expect highs on Monday to be in the upper 20s to low 30s with Tuesday and Wednesday highs expected to be in the low to mid 30s, with some upper 30s by Wednesday afternoon possible

LATE JANUARY THROUGH FEBRUARY
#LongSentenceAlert
As an aside, this winter currently looks to play out in a somewhat similar fashion as the 2014-2015 winter season, in that it started off with a mild December into the first half of January, followed by a blast of winter that lasted into March.

Of course, we shall see how it transpires, but there are still signals that indicate the last 10 days of January through February could be legitimately wintry for southern New England.

Anyway, just thought I’d pass that along. Please do bundle up for the day, and especially if you have plans out tonight.

Have a great day!
