Western Mass Weather for January 10, 2019

CYCLONIC FLOW BRINGS ONE MORE DAY OF SNOW SHOWERS AND BREEZY CONDITIONS TO OUR REGION THROUGH TONIGHT WITH LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS IN THE BERKSHIRES, TACONICS, LITCHFIELDS, AND SVT WITH A COATING TO AN INCH OR SO POSSIBLE… THE BIG HEADLINE IS VERY COLD AIR MOVING IN THROUGH THE WEEKEND, SO BUNDLE UP… (7:05am Thurs)

Good morning everybody, breezy conditions continue at times this morning as we start off the day with temps in the 20s to low 30s.

While any of us could see a snow shower or flurry today as a slow-moving and broad upper level low pressure area provides one last swipe through the region, it is the aforementioned high terrain regions of southwestern New England that are likely to see light accumulations and the most persistent snow showers today, especially this morning.

SUMMARY
–Highs today are basically being set this morning, which is the mid 20s to low 30s. We drop from here.
–Northwest winds will gust between 25-30mph at times today and tonight. Skies will be mostly cloudy.
–Snow showers continue in the high terrain, and wane as we move into the late afternoon and especially overnight as drier air moves in from the west
–Lows will drop into the single digits over the higher terrain to the teens in the valley areas down into northern CT
–Friday and Saturday, high pressure builds closer establishing a northerly flow, which will drain a lobe of the polar vortex into the region
–It will be sunny and fair, but very cold, with highs on Friday in the upper teens to low 20s, and lows in the single digits!
–Saturday will feature highs in the 20s and lows in the teens, as clouds build in from the south
–It still appears as if our Sunday storm system will be suppressed south of the region by this incoming high pressure, which will promote a flat/zonal storm track
–A Mid-Atlantic snowstorm looks like a good bet, but the best we could hope for (if you’re a snow lover) is some snow showers along and south of the Pike Sunday morning
–Otherwise, Sunday is partly sunny with highs similar to Saturday. The Patriots playoff game is looking fine at the moment
–Monday through Wednesday also looks mostly sunny, fair, and a bit milder with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s
–By late week there is the potential for some wintry events, but we’ll talk more about those late this weekend into next week

For those sick and tired of wet weather, yet another dry spell has arrived after we get through today.

Have a great day!
