[MON-6:55AM] WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL OF MA, CT, SVT, AND SWNH BEGINNING AT 10AM FOR A GENERALLY LIGHT MIX OF SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN/DRIZZLE, WHICH WILL MIX WITH AND CHANGE TO PLAIN RAIN BY TONIGHT, FIRST IN NORTHERN CT AND THE SOUTHERN VALLEY, THEN FURTHER NORTH IN WMASS WITH POCKETS OF FREEZING RAIN/DRIZZLE REMAINING IN THE WESTERN HILLTOWNS AND BERKSHIRES UP INTO SVT… A LIGHT EVENT… MOSTLY FAIR AND MILDER WEATHER TUESDAY FORWARD…

TODAY’S DATE: Monday, February 7, 2022
Good morning everybody, it’s pretty cold out there this morning but our relative humidity is up, which means that when light precip arrives by mid to late morning from south to north (say 9am to Noon) it should start as light snow or freezing drizzle depending on precip intensity, but before we dive into our Details of Inclemency below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with a new location in West Springfield, MA.

DISCUSSION:
Good morning folks, as you know Winter Weather Advisories have been hoisted by the NWS, mostly due to the freezing rain and freezing drizzle potential with some light snow accumulations added in.

Some untreated surfaces will become slippery, so while this is a mainly light impact event, just have some awareness out there today and this evening, especially if you live at elevation.

For today, an inverted trough with broad but weak rising air motion will spread generally light to at times moderate precipitation in the form of snow and freezing drizzle at first from south to north into our region.

It’s cold enough at all levels to support snow starting between 9am and Noon from south to north, but the lift is rather weak, so at times when it’s not precipitating steadily or hard enough, we should see periods of freezing drizzle instead, as the lower atmosphere is plenty moist and cold enough to start.

Temps are in the teens and 20s early this morning, but will rise into the low to mid 30s later this afternoon, and then pretty much hang there overnight, sitting just above or just below the freezing mark.

So expect periods of snow, freezing rain (as the mid levels warm above freezing while surface is still below) and freezing drizzle this afternoon, transitioning to plain rain first in CT and then spreading north through the night as the storm brings milder air and makes its closest pass as it heads out to sea Tuesday morning.

Snow should quit by sometime tonight, with freezing rain or freezing drizzle possible where temps hang in the upper 20s to low 30s in the high terrain, with some low 30s over the northern valley and in the highlands of CMass, north and west.

A coating to an inch or two of snow is possible, but most would be a coating to an inch, with light ice glazes before any switches to rain.

By Tuesday, any final showers end very early and then a partly sunny day develops with highs in the 30s to near 40º with northwest breezes. Lows will drop into the upper teens to low 20s.

For Wednesday through Friday we’ll have partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the 35-40º range, with Thursday possibly getting up into the low to mid 40s before a cold front comes through with a few showers possible at night.

Lows during this period will generally be in the 20s with partly cloudy skies on average.

Saturday looks fairly mild with highs either side of 40º, but clouds will be building with another cold front moving into the region which will turn us markedly colder for Sunday into early next week, at which time we may have a winter storm to handle. However, that’s a long way off and is just something to watch at the moment.

Ok folks, that about does it for now, hope you have a great day, and please read below if I’m 1. not showing in your feed, 2. you have trouble finding posts, or 3. you want to connect outside of here. Thanks!
