Western Mass Weather for February 3, 2019

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR THE BERKSHIRES AND TACONICS EXPIRES AT 10AM FOR SPOTTY FREEZING DRIZZLE THREAT… OTHERWISE, WE ARE IN A WARMING TREND THROUGH TUESDAY BY WHICH TIME TEMPS COULD APPROACH 60 DEGREES FOR A DAY BEFORE TAMPING BACK DOWN TO MORE SEASONABLE COLD WITH ICING STILL POSSIBLE WED. NIGHT INTO FRIDAY… SEASONABLE COLD NEXT WEEKEND… (7:55am Sunday)

Good morning everybody, with a stalled cold front in the vicinity of SVT and temps in the 20s to low 30s, some spotty freezing drizzle has formed. It may cause a very light glaze, but that’s all you need for slippery travel, and this icing threat will be felt in SVT as well as the western hilltowns.

As the front begins to lift north as a warm front today, this threat should end before noon, and we should see partly sunny skies develop with with highs generally 35-40 degrees. More clouds may hang in north of the Rt. 2 corridor.

For tonight, lows will drop into the mid to upper 20s under mostly cloudy skies.

Monday and Tuesday will comprise our very mild stretch as southwest flow develops courtesy of a Great Lakes storm that will track well northwest and help to draw warmer air into the region as it does so, thanks to its counterclockwise flow.

Both days will be partly sunny with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s Monday and everybody into the 50s to even near 60 on Tuesday. However, Monday night may feature a few scattered rain showers when lows will be in the 30s.

A cold front sweeps through Tuesday night dropping temps back into the 20s with highs under mostly sunny skies on Wednesday reaching the 30s.

There is still uncertainty for the Wednesday night through Friday period. We know it will be colder, and we know a storm system will be tracking into the region somewhere but we don’t know exact track, or how strong and in what literal shape Canadian high pressure will be to our northeast.

If the high is strong enough and in one piece, it could produce enough cold air damming draining cold southwestward into the region that a period of sleet and freezing rain could be the result for our region.

More on that as we get closer. Watch for slick spots this morning in the high terrain, have a great day, and Go Pats!!!!
