Good morning everybody, we have a beautiful but cold morning out there with a wide mix of temperatures presenting an interesting lay out with single digits along/near the Pike, but 20s in the Berkshires and southwest VT, which indicates the milder air on west-southwest flow that is set to push some of us above 40º today.
With the rising late February sun angle and temps in the upper 30s to low 40s today, we’ll get some snow melt to continue.
Clouds will increase as the day wears on, and west-southwest winds will pick up and gust 25-40mph by afternoon as an Arctic front approaches from the north and northwest.
By mid to late afternoon we could see a few snow showers developing over the southern Greens, but between 7-10pm is the best chance for a broken line of snow showers, some on the heavier side, to push into SVT and SWNH and down into MA just ahead of the cold front.
This will not be an event like the heavy snow squalls of last weekend, as you generally need the day time heating to generate that kind of rising air / convection, but we can’t rule out an isolated spot here and there seeing a quick dusting by midnight.
Winds will shift out of the west-southwest to the northwest, and gust 25-35mph overnight into Monday morning.
As much colder air advects into the greater WMass region after midnight, lows will crash into the single digits. Combined with the gusty NW winds, and wind chills will sit down to between 5º above and 10º below zero, so bundle up if you’re heading out early Monday morning!
Monday will be cold and blustery in the morning, with highs in the upper teens to mid 20s, with winds slackening by afternoon and evening, with lows once again in the single digits to low teens under clear skies.
We will still be under the influence of a broad mid-level trough well north of us in eastern Canada that will keep swinging disturbances through our region on late Tuesday, late Wednesday into Thursday, and late next weekend.
For Tuesday through Thursday, there will be a couple of Canadian Clipper systems to deal with.
Tuesday’s looks very weak and transient, with only a few rain or snow showers late in the day, with highs in the mid to upper 30s and lows in the mid 20s with any snow showers ending.
For Wednesday, we should get a mini-break between the light action with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 30s again with clouds increasing by evening.
A reinforcing shot of colder air will arrive with lows in the upper teens to low 20s and another potentially slightly perhaps maybe slightly possibly “stronger” Clipper system capable of producing a light accumulating snowfall, but that may develop more into CMass or EMass.
Highs will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s for Thursday (and Friday), as that system clear east of us. Friday looks sunny and cold.
Next weekend looks milder, and chances would favor more of a rainstorm potential for Sunday, but that’s a ways off, and I will keep you updated all the way through.
