WE WILL CHANGE FROM LIGHT SNOW AND FREEZING DRIZZLE TO MODERATE TO HEAVY SLEET MIXED WITH FREEZING RAIN WHICH WILL WORK INTO THE REGION BY MIDNIGHT OR SO AND LAST OVER NIGHT… (10:40pm Wednesday)
Good evening everybody, just a quick note to say that our radar is lighting up, and all those bright colors are indicating that sleet and freezing rain is on the way into the region. Heavier snow will mix in at times before the total changeover to ice.

Roads will become even more slippery as precipitation intensity increases while changing to either sleet or freezing rain overnight.
Temperatures are in the upper teens to low 20s. Even though we will warm up to the low 30s by 8am tomorrow morning when our precip should quit, it will remain cold tonight and foster icy road ways tonight.
Travel with caution, and please post your condition reports below. Thank you…

Good evening everybody, hope the day was grand, and it if wasn’t grand, hopefully you at least had a nice sandwich. Sometimes that’s a day-maker. Moving on!
Snow has reached the ground in Westfield, Bradley Airport (BDL), Hartford, Pittsfield, and other portions of southwestern MA and western CT and will continue to spread northeast into the region through 8pm.
SNOW SHIELD NOT THAT IMPRESSIVE
The snow shield is fairly broken and unimpressive, being the remnants of more impactful snow event down in the MId-Atlantic this morning and afternoon.
As such, northern CT is likely to see more snow during the next few hours, with less snow in WMass.
VERY DRY AIR TO BLAME, IN PART
Dewpoint depressions (i.e. the difference between air temps and dewpoint temps) has been WIDE, meaning no snow had been reaching the ground earlier, despite snow showers overhead. However, the column is saturating now, so we can all expect snow or flurries at any time.
I expect snow to be showery to periodic, meaning there will be some breaks and lulls with both the presence of snow or not, as well as intensity when it’s actually snowing. I’d be surprised if there was more than a coating in spots through 10pm
HEAVIER PRECIP BY LATE TONIGHT
There is a heavier band of precipitation on the southeast flank of the parent low that is racing through the Great Lakes tonight.
It is in central PA and pushing into western NY and should be here before midnight. At the same time, warmer mid-level air is racing north and should be here by about midnight.
All this to say, there is a chance for a brief 1-2 hour period of moderate to even heavy-at-times snowfall just before midnight (see attached graphic) before we change to sleet and freezing rain overnight.
AMOUNTS
It still looks like a coating to 2″ should accumulate, but if that heavier precip doesn’t get in here in the form of snow for an hour or so, some of us might be lucky to get coatings, though most should at least have the ground coated.
During the pre-dawn hours, we go to sleet and freezing rain, and travel will be slick overnight, with some delays possible tomorrow morning. Precip quits between 6-8am tomorrow. Up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain ice accretion is possible.

NICE THURSDAY AFTERNOON ON THE WAY!
The day will become nicer and nicer, with highs in the 40s and at least some partial sunshine in the afternoon. Lows will be in the 20s.
Friday and Saturday still look nice as high pressure builds through the region with highs near 40 and lows in the 20s, and the first half of Saturday still looks nice, with ice to rain late Saturday night through Sunday.
Ok, I hope you have a great night and please post your condition reports and pics below, thanks!

SUMMARY
–Clouds continue to build into the region today, and highs are expected to reach 25-30 degrees
–Parent low pressure will move WAY to the northwest, and spur up a secondary low pressure system which will peak out over the Mid-Atlantic, but comparatively wash out over southern New England
–Nonetheless, snow moves in between 5pm-8pm from NW CT up to SVT/SWNH/N. Worcester County
–Generally a half inch up to two inches of snow is expected before we turn to sleet between 10pm-midnight
–Lows tonight will drop into the low to mid 20s, so road conditions will be slippery, especially after such a cold pair of nights we just experienced
–PLEASE NOTE: It won’t take long for snow to stick tonight given the above, so don’t be a hero driving around like it’s no big whoop
–Sleet late tonight turns to freezing rain during the pre-dawn hours, and up to a tenth of an inch of ice glaze is possible by morning
–All mixed precip should end by 7am or so tomorrow morning, and there will be some slippery spots for the morning commute
–However, those will go away as the morning wears on, because milder air floods the region behind our departing storm system, and highs in the 40s are expected with sunshine developing
–Expect lows in the upper 20s under partly cloudy skies with northwest winds gusting over 20mph at times
–Strong high pressure builds east into the region for Friday and Saturday with highs either side of 40 degrees and lows in the low to mid 20s
–Clouds build Saturday night, and mixed precipitation is expected during the pre-dawn hours of Sunday before changing to rain for most of Sunday with highs in the mid 40s, and lows near 30 degrees
–Monday and Tuesday look fair and colder, with highs in the 30s
–I am still monitoring for winter storm potential for Tuesday night into Wednesday, so stay tuned
