COLD TONIGHT WITH BELOW ZERO WIND CHILLS
As for our short-term sensible weather, we have a very cold night coming up as chilly air drains in from the northwest into our region.

Northwesterly flow will cause some wind gusts over 20mph at times tonight in the Berkshires, Taconics, southern Greens, and possibly even in the Worcester highlands.

This will cause wind chills to drop into the single digits below zero in the high terrain, and possibly in the double digits below zero along the spine of the southern Greens (see attached map).

Expect lows in the single digits above zero in the aforementioned regions, and in the low to mid teens in the valley areas down into northern CT.

For Tuesday, we will have a cold winter day on tap. Plenty of sunshine will be accompanied by northwest wind gusts as high as 25mph at times (less so in the valley), with highs in the low 20s to near 30 degrees. Lows will be in the single digits as winds slacken and high pressure builds overhead.

On Wednesday, yet another inland-tracking storm system with weak secondary development will occur. This pattern is obnoxiously monotonous and boring, to be quite frank, but report on it i will until I’m blue in the rear.

We start off partly sunny, then cloud up as the day wears on. Highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s.

SNOW TO ICE AGAIN #LAME
We will once again have cold-enough air in place at all levels to produce snow at the onset (sometime between 6-9pm, to be refined later), with a change to sleet and freezing rain overnight. Maybe a coating to an inch or so of snow. Not sure this one is going to be plowable, plow peeps!

A dry slot works in by Thursday morning with milder air, which may turn some us to plain rain or drizzle before quitting Thursday morning. Wednesday lows will be in the 20s.

MILDER THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND
We should generally be residing in the upper 30s to mid 40s through this period with fair weather, except for Saturday night into Sunday when a brief onset of ice should change to all rain in a milder surface environment.

COLDER BY EARLY MARCH
There are signals for an Arctic air intrusion at this longer range, but the air will likely not be as brutally cold as earlier this winter. Some additional winter weather is possible with this setup, but no big storms in sight for now.

Have a great night!

Good morning everybody, it sure is beautiful out there today!!

A storm isn’t over until it’s over, and this one has some additional snow to deliver to us as another wave north of a stationary frontal boundary tracks ESE through our region.

It should already be snowing again in the northern Berkshires down to Pittsfield, and it is lightly snowing in Albany again after a lull.

This isn’t going to dump a ton of snow, but another coating to an inch or two looks possible (higher end of that range in SVT)… I will be monitoring it. This band looks to move through by 3 or 4pm.

I would love to hear from folks in the Taconics/E.NY, Berkshires, and SVT regarding conditions, especially to the point of whether or not the ground or road ways are beginning to be re-coated. Thanks!

Good morning everybody, much of the snow that is going to accumulate has fallen overnight. Northampton has received about 2.5″, and my estimation is that across the region we’ve gotten about 1-4″.

However, I need you to give me some ground truth! Please let me know how much snow you have on the ground and your town, along with current conditions.

The steadiest of the snow is in northern CT, eastern Hampden County and southern CMass and racing east with the surface low.

There will be additional periods of light snow today, along with freezing drizzle as the upper levels are dying out. You need moisture up high to make snowflakes, and at times when that moisture dries out, and low level moisture exists at the ground, you get freezing drizzle or light snow grains.

Where freezing drizzle develops, slick roadways, driveways, sidewalks and paths will be possible, so keep an awareness of what’s falling from the sky.

Highs today will be mainly in the mid to upper 20s, with lows in the teens tonight as snow comes to an end.

Tuesday is gorgeous, mostly sunny, highs near 30 degrees, but it will become quite cold Tuesday night with lows in the single digits and clear skies.

Wednesday starts off partly sunny and then clouds up as another storm system approaches from the west.

This one will bring light snow accumulations at night, turning to ice in the pre-dawn hours and then to plain rain Thursday morning. Hooray!!! #NOT

I will update again this evening, hope you have a great day!
