WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES CONTINUE FOR THE BERKSHIRES, TACONICS, ALL OF N.CT, HAMPDEN COUNTY AND S. WORCESTER COUNTY FOR LIGHT TO AT TIMES MODERATE ACCUMULATING SNOW LATE TONIGHT AND INTO EARLY TOMORROW MORNING… IN OTHER NEWS, DAVE HAYES’ USE OF THE WORD “HOIST” WHEN REPORTING ON NWS ALERTS REVEALS THAT IN HIS PAST LIFE HE WAS A LONELY LIGHTHOUSE OPERATOR IN THE LATE 1800s… STORY NOT AT 11… (3:35pm Sunday)
Good evening everybody, to start, just because WWAs are not HOISTED (heh) for some of the counties in WMass, CMass, SVT, or SWNH, doesn’t mean those areas won’t see some snow, it’s just that they should expect less compared to the advised areas.

Our mid week storm is looking a bit warmer with high pressure positioning it self more to our east, and parent low pressure hanging way west. This is a recipe for snow to sleet to rain, but I will update on that after our Monday storm system moves through and affects the remnant flow. Speaking of flow, the summary is below:
SUMMARY
–Lows will drop into the mid 20s tonight as clouds increase and snow moves in by late night, likely just before or around midnight (10pm-12am)
–The bulk of our accumulating snow from this system should fall during the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning
–South of the Rt. 2 corridor, 2-4″ of snow seems like a good consensus to arrive at.
–Some areas along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor should see 1-3″
–I would not be surprised to see some 5″ or even 6″ amounts in parts of north-central CT, northeast CT, and southern Worcester County
–The heaviest snow falls until about mid morning tomorrow, then we taper to light snow showers
–One concern that exists is that it may dry out so much a couple of miles or so above our heads, that snowflake production could crater, and we could see periods of freezing drizzle and/or tiny snow grains that don’t accumulate much
–If we get freezing drizzle, that is going to cause some slick conditions on the roads if it is persistent, so something to watch
–From late morning into the evening, periods of light snow, freezing drizzle or spitting/very light snow is possible with additional coatings possible
–Highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, with lows in the teens as we clear and dry out later at night
–Tuesday looks beautiful, with highs in the upper 20s and mostly sunny skies as high pressures moves through the areas. Lows will be in the low teens
–Then we watch late Wednesday into early Thursday when another slop fest arrives, bringing snow to ice and possibly changing to plain rain
–After a fair late-week period, another storm is possible next weekend
For the time being, my focus will be on tonight’s/tomorrow’s light/moderate storm until tomorrow evening.
To that end, I will update early tomorrow morning, as well as a brief update later tonight, sometime around 10pm.

CELESTIAL:
–OUR STAR ROSE AT: 6:43am this morning
–OUR STAR WILL SET AT: 5:25pm this evening
–OUR MOON WILL RISE AT: 3:05pm this afternoon
–OUR MOON WILL SET AT: 6:08am tomorrow morning

SUMMARY:
–Good morning everybody, we have another beautiful day coming up, albeit cold
–Plenty of sunshine today with light winds and seasonably cold temperatures will put the Sun back in Sunday, for sure
–For tonight, clouds build as low pressure tracks east-notheast through the southern Ohio Valley, heading for the upper Mid-Atlantic coastline
–Snow will break out around midnight, probably a bit before, and will become steady overnight
–As low pressure tracks to our south, we will stay in the cold zone with high pressure to our northwest
–The Monday morning commute will be impacted by this moderate/steady snowfall, with occasional heavier bursts
–Snow will last into the afternoon and tape to light snow before quitting sometime Monday evening

DHTWN’S 2019 SUPPORT DRIVE:
———————–
–Approximately 2-4″ of snow should fall across our region, with the lighter amounts north of the Pike and heavier amounts along and south of the Pike
–We should see more like 1-3″ along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor
–A slight wobble north could turn this into more of a 3-6′ event for us along/south of the Pike, and 2-4″ along/north of Rt. 2, but I’m going with the lower totals for the moment
–Highs Monday will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, with lows in the teens
–Tuesday will be a colder day, as colder air is pulled in on the backside of our departing low
–Expect sunny skies, but highs in the low to upper 20s across the region, with lows in the teens
–Our southeast ridge (i.e. higher pressures near Florida) should flex a bit and bob north into mid week
–This will direct another low pressure system a bit more northerly which will bring more accumulating snow in here by late Wednesday afternoon or evening, and lasting through the Thursday morning commute
–However, this more northerly jog will introduce warmer air at the mid levels, and turn us from snow to sleet and freezing rain sometime during the first half of Thursday, but not before at least another 1-3″ or so of snow would fall
I will refine things as we go forward, and update again this evening regarding our incoming soft pillowy snow blanket.
Have a great day!
