Western Mass Weather for December 29, 2021

6:45AM-WED: RAINY NEW YEAR’S DAY ON THE WAY WITH ASSOCIATED MILDENING ACTIVITIES… PRIOR TO THAT, SOME MORE WINTRY MIX SPITTY STUFF… AFTER THAT, COLDER, SUNNIER, AND MORE JANUARY-Y SURFACE-ATMOSPHERIC OPERATIONS… METEOROLOGICALLY, 2021 IS ENDING WITH A LIGHT BURP…

Good morning everybody, yet another light wintry mix moved through overnight with snow coatings and brief bursts of steadier snow, but that will be waning to pockets of fog, freezing drizzle and plain drizzle into the mid morning or so before ending. We do have another round of scattered mixed showers overnight tonight into Thursday with a dry New Year’s Eve and a wet New Year’s Day, but before we bulletize, amortize, and prophesize about those details, I’ve got a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with a new location in West Springfield, MA.

BULLETIZATION OPERATIONS ARE IN EFFECT BELOW
–Good morning everybody, how much snow did you get overnight? Anyone see a fresh inch on the ground? Pics or it didn’t happen!
–We still have a few snow showers in the WMass region reaching into western Worcester County, and also some patches of fog, freezing drizzle, and plain drizzle
–As such, some slick spots will be present mostly on secondary and tertiary roads, so check your surfaces people
–Temps will come up today, rising into the mid to upper 30s for highs as any hydrometeors dry up
–However, we’ll remain cloudy due to abundant low/mid level moisture being trapped by warmer air above the moist layer
–We’ve been stuck in this western trough / southeastern ridge flow pattern which has continually sends weakening systems from the southwest U.S. east-northeast into the Mid-Atlantic and New England
–This continues again tonight with another round of light, scattered wintry mix with some snow or freezing rain showers with lows in the low to mid 30s
–Any wintry mix overnight transitions to plain scattered rain showers on Thursday with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s as mildening operations increase
–Thursday night may see some rain showers mixing with snow before ending, but the inclement weather will be on the wane into Friday
–Thursday night lows will dip into the low to mid 30s
–For New Year’s Eve day / Friday, we may see our star floating in the cosmic firmament above (a/k/a the Sun in the sky)
–However, mostly cloudy skies are now expected, but it will be milder with highs in the low to mid 40s, and conditions look supportive of any traveling or festivities at night
–Lows will drop into the mid to upper 30s, but rain showers will be moving in during the pre-dawn hours of New Year’s Day
–The first day of 2022 looks rainy and inclement (hopefully not an omen)
–It will quite mild with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s
–Showers will continue into Saturday evening, but should break up a bit overnight with lows in the mid 30s
–Sunday looks like a transition day with highs reached early in the day, perhaps into the mid 40s before a cold front slices through and changes any remnant rain showers into snow showers, and temps PLUMMET into the teens for Sunday night lows
–Sunday evening looks blustery behind the front with northwest winds gusting to 25mph at times, which will add to lowering wind chill readings
–At least for a few days, our pattern will change to a cold, dry one with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 20s Monday, and upper 20s to mid 30s on Tuesday, with lows in the teens to near 20º

Have a great day!
