Western Mass Weather for December 27, 2020

[FAIRLY PEDESTRIAN WEATHER UNTIL NEW YEAR’S EVE… TWO LATE-WEEK STORM SYSTEMS POSSIBLE… RAINY NEW YEAR’S EVEN, AND POSSIBLY ICY NEW YEAR’S DAY… (6:00am Sunday)

Good morning everybody, we’re starting off in the upper teens to 20s, but many of us should warm above the freezing mark today.

A partly sunny day over the Berkshires, with more sunshine expected over the valley with highs in the low to mid 30s, with perhaps some upper 30s down in northern CT. Lows will be in the 20s.

High pressure passes south of us by Monday, which will put us in southwest flow, leading to highs in the low to mid 40s with mostly cloudy skies increasing as a weak system passes well northwest of us.

This system will lead to some afternoon scattered showers possible along a cold front, especially the further north and west you go (i.e. Berkshires, SVT, etc.).

After the front passes, temps drop again, bottoming out in the low to mid 20s overnight with a snow shower possible.

Tuesday looks blustery and cold, with west/northwest wind gusts up to 30mph, and highs in the 25-30º range with wind chills in the teens at times under mostly sunny skies. Lows will plummet into the teens.

Wednesday looks quite nice, with less wind, partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 30s with lows in the 20s as clouds increase.

It’s possible that the morning of New Year’s Even could see a snow shower before changing to some rain showers during the day.

This first weaker system brings milder air and highs well into the 40s so any early morning wintry precip turns to rain, and it should stay above freezing New Year’s Eve, so if you are traveling, slick roads are not expected, unless you’re a dumb-ass and crash your car, spilling your booze and/or road soda all over the road, so don’t be a dumb-ass.

It’s really New Year’s Day into the 2nd that I am concerned about for a wintry mix type storm, but I will update you as we get closer, as it lots of uncertainty still exists.

Hope you have a great SunDay!
