Western Mass Weather for December 23, 2018

LIGHT SNOW TOMORROW MORNING… CHRISTMAS EVE AND DAY TRAVELS LOOKING DRY… FAIR WEATHER WEEK AHEAD WITH SNOW/ICE TO RAIN FRIDAY… (7:10am Sunday)

Good morning everybody, the light slowly returns as the Cold Moon sets. Staring at the moon this AM made me wonder what it was like to actually land on it. Mind blowing.

Anyway, the wind kept pace a bit overnight thanks to a little feature that pressed the pressure gradient with the palm of its windy thumb (don’t ask me what that means, I’m sleep deprived).

For today, it’ll be mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 30s.

Clouds increase tonight with calm winds and lows in the low to mid 20s.

Light snow arrives after midnight and lasts into part of tomorrow morning. This feature has some snow production struggles, but should get it together to drop at least a coating across the region, maybe an inch or two in some high terrain spots that can orographically ring out a bit more moisture.

HIghs tomorrow will be in the low to mid 30s, and after the snow quits before noon, partly sunny skies should develop in the afternoon. Lows again in the 20s for Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day through Thursday look sunny, fair, dry, highs in the low to mid 30s, lows in the 20s.

We cloud up Thursday night as a low tracks out of the Tennessee Valley and up through the eastern Great Lakes.

Cold air in place gives us a burst of snow at first, then sleet and freezing rain into early Friday morning, then rain during the day as we warm above freezing and (in some areas, like northern CT) into the low 40s.

Nice weekend thereafter, with mild temps on Saturday.

Have a great day, and take some deep breaths. It’s bananas out there with people furiously whipping around hither and thither. Patience is helpful to smoothe out the frenetic frenzy of those who are flipping out.

Like everything else in life, including our lives, it will all come and go, come and go, come and go… enjoy it while you’re here.

And enjoy the festive flakes tomorrow morning! :-)
