DOUBLE–DASH DISPENSARY
A/K/A WEATHER BULLETIN:
–Happy Winter Solstice! Our longest night and shortest day arrives with sunrise 7:10am and sunset 4:14pm
–The light begins its return tomorrow!
–High pressure rules today, and mildens up our temps into the upper 30s to low 40s for highs under mostly sunny skies
–Clouds build this evening, as a coastal storm that is forecast to stay well south/east of The Benchmark (i.e. 40ºN/70ºW)
–With another storm to our northwest, the two look to link via a trough (broad, non-circulated area of low pressure)
–This should allow light, patchy showers to form over the eastern half of CT and WMass, into all of CMass
–With lows expected in the mid 20s, this means we could have some areas of light freezing rain to contend with, starting in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning and lasting into mid to late morning before we warm enough to stop icing
–Give yourself time for travel tomorrow morning, mainly along and east of I-91 in MA and CT, and especially in CMass and northeast CT
–Highs on Wednesday will reach the upper 30s to low 40s with partial sunshine in the afternoon, and northwest winds will gust 25-35mph behind the departing coastal low as it strengthens
–Lows Wednesday night will dip into the upper teens to low 20s, and winds will continue to gust to 30mph, which means wind chills may drop into the single digits
–For Thursday we’ve got a cold, sunny and initially blustery day to anticipate with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s with breezy conditions early, and then slackening by afternoon as high pressure moves closer and weakens the pressure gradient.
–For Thursday night, clouds will increase as temps drop into the low to mid 20s for lows
–An area of snow showers will work through the region after midnight into early Friday morning, and may dust the ground in a few spots
–That warm front moves through, and we’re left with a slightly milder, mostly cloudy day on Friday with highs in the mid to upper 30s
–Another warm front approaches Christmas Eve, and should bring a period of light snow very late Christmas Eve into the pre-dawn hours of Christmas morning, and some VERY light accumulations are possible, maybe a coating to an inch
–However, warmer air is likely to turn this to rain showers on Christmas morning before it quits by noon with highs in the 30s
–There is still plenty of uncertainty so stay tuned for updates
–In addition, there is a signal for a low pressure system to move in on the heels of that frontal passage for Sunday into Sunday night, so stay tuned for future reports as we clarify the coming weekend

Have a great day!
